...............
Heather POV
...............When I awoke next, I was staring up at a familiar ceiling. My ceiling.
There was a warmth pressing me into the bed on one side.
My kitten!
Hopea was curled up into my side. Her thumb in her mouth and tail over my hips. Her other hand opening and closing as if kneading biscuits.
She was also lightly purring. A blush upon her cheeks as she slept so cutely.
"My little pea." The lump formed in my throat and I couldn't help it. I pulled her into my body and woke her up.
"Eeek! Mommy, what are you doing."
"Nothing baby. I love you so much!" I buried my face in her hair and inhaled her fresh and soft scent.
"I love mommy too, but what's gotten into you?"
"Nothing. It's nothing."
She was back! Back safely in my arms. And I wasn't going to let someone take her away from me again. She was mine and mine alone.
...
We wandered into the living room. Where there were two kittens and my dad sitting on the couch.
All of them watching cartoons and munching on multicoloured popcorn.
I blinked at all of them.
"Who are they?" I whispered to Hopea, hoping to get filled in. Why were there more kittens in my house? And why was dad still here?
"Oh them?" Hopea nodded. "Thats my big brother Eclipse. And the other one is my twin sister... I think...?"
"You think?" I chuckled and rubbed her on the head. "So why are they here?"
"You're awake!?" Shin was the first to greet me out of the three. He smiled gently and tilted his head. It gave his smile a lopsided and boyish quality. "Thank goodness, I was hoping you would wake up before the end of the month."
"How long was I out?"
"Hmm..." He pressed a finger to his lips in thought. "Around three weeks, give or take a day or two."
"Okay."
Man, I must've been really tired to sleep for that long.
"Oh, and you had better give Cheyanne a call." He pointed over his shoulder to the phone before returning his attention back to the cartoons. Getting into it with the other two kittens.
"Yeah."
I didn't hesitate to call her house.
The phone picked up after three rings.
"Mmh? Hello?" She sounded tired. Yawning after she said hello.
"I'm alive!"
"Heather!? Oh my god!" She shouted into the phone. "I thought you were dead!" Her voice became hushed. "Oh yeah, Annie is here hanging out with Kim. Wanna talk... Never mind. I think she's too excited to see you."
"Waaaah! Oomph!" As soon as she said never mind, there was a flash of red and I was flattened under said girl.
"How!?" I blinked up at her smiling face. She was covered in glittery and rainbow coloured makeup.
"My human crony is aliiiiiiiive!" She went dramatic. Her arms spread out and face toward the ceiling before she fell forward on top of me.
Hopea giggled and patted her on the head. "There there, we all knew she was."
"Of course I am." I tried my best to smirk up at her with confidence, but I don't think it came off that way.
"Um, hello...?" Cheyanne said on the other end.
"Yeah, I was just tackled by a flurry of rainbow sparkles."
"Oh? That was quick. Well, I'll see you later."
"Bye."
She hung up the phone and left me with said rainbow flurry. She snuggled in. Leaving me on the ground and not letting me get up.
Hopea pouted briefly before pushing her aside and snuggling into me as well.
"Okay, what did I miss?" I worried about the pair.
"Truce." Hopea muttered and rubbed me with her nose. Sniffing me gently.
"Oh?"
"Mmhmm, you had us scared." Annjaya stared at me. "You're not supposed to die! It's your job to take care of her."
"I get it." I ruffled her hair. "Though, are the other three staying?"
I pointed my gaze at the trio watching cartoons.
Shin turned back to me, "Nah, I got things grannie wants me to do for her. I was only here until you woke up. After all, someone had to take care of the little ones."
"Oh? But you are going to visit, right?"
He blinked in shock before staring at me. "Uh, um. I guess so. If you want me to, that is."
"I'd like that."
"Cool." He grinned lightly and tilted his head. "Well, I'm off."
He stood up and tore a hole in the space time continuum. Disappearing like he had never been.
Annjaya and Hopea snuggled against me.
Grannie was right. Hopea would always love me. And with that sparkle in her eye as she gazed down at me warmly, I knew there was no other for my own heart but her.
