Later that night, Michael dropped me off at home like usual. I opened the door expecting to see my parents smiling faces as they welcomed me home, but that's not what I found. When I walked through the front door, I saw my mom pacing and my dad seated on the stairs with a stern expression. They both looked up at me when they heard the door unlock.

"Would you like to explain where you were all day?" My dad asked while rising to his feet. I knew that if I was going to get out of this without punishment, mom was the parent that I needed to convince.

"Ugh it's a girl thing. Can I talk to mom alone for a minute?" I asked politely. My dad left our sight, but I could tell he was lingering close by.

"Im really sorry I didn't tell you. I wasn't planning on skipping school. Everett had a personal problem and she needed me today." I was careful not give too much detail.

"I understand I just wish you would have told me. Your reason for skipping today was legit, but you still should've known not to skip school. I think you might need to just stay home this weekend." She rubbed my arm as she told me I was grounded. I sighed, but didn't protest knowing I got away with a lot more than I thought I would. After an awkward dinner with my parents, I locked myself in my room for the rest of the night. I twirled my phone around in my hands and debated whether or not to text Michael. Within less than a month I had gone from hating him to possible liking him.

"I hope skipping today was worth it." I texted him. I felt stupid for sending it after he didn't respond. I deleted the message from my phone, pretending like it was never sent in the first place.

The rest of the week, Michael went back to being the same jerk he was when I met him. He pretended not to know who I was, but there were also times that I caught him looking at me or I could see his smile out of the corner of my eye. The feelings that Michael caused me to feel weren't always once that I wanted, but they were undoubtedly there. He confused me more than anyone else and being in the same room with him made me nervous. Friday during physics he finally talked to me again.

"So I'll pick you up tonight?" He turned around in his desk and looked at me.

"Oh. Are you actually talking to me?" I asked a little too defensively. "Besides I can't go out. I got grounded for skipping school with you the other day."

"And your point is?" He asked like it was no big deal. I didn't argue with him any longer because I didn't think he was serious anyway.

The school day went by surprisingly fast, and by 5:00 I was already in bed reading The Awakening. A couple hours later I was halfway through the book when I heard something hit my window. Startled, I walked to my window and looked down onto the front yard. There I saw Michael with a hand full of rocks.

"Not only is this cliche, but it's stupid." I said watching the adorable idiot throw a rock up and down in his right hand.

"Come down here or I'll throw another one." He warned.

"I swear if you break my window I'm going to kick your ass." I said trying not to wake my parents.

"Either way you have to come down." He smirked.

"Fine. How am I going to get down?" I raised my eyebrows.

"Just jump. I'll catch you I promise." He assured me. I looked down from the second floor of my house, my palms began to sweat as I put one leg out of my window.

"You are insane." I shook my head.

"Trust me, it'll be worth it." He winked and tossed the rock he was holding behind him and made his way below my window. I bit my lip before looking down one last time. Michael stood below me with outstretched arms and I fell into them perfectly. His muscular arms stiffened as I landed in them and he laughed at the sound I made as I was falling.

"I'm surprised that actually worked." He said after he put me down. My hips tingled where his hands gripped them moments before. I punched his arm for making me do something so stupid before sitting down in the drivers seat.

"I'm driving." I said buckling my seat belt.

"Yeah right." He said reaching for the keys.

"You make me do something stupid, but it's your turn to." I smirked as I motioned for him to get in. Michael hesitantly got into the passengers seat and immediately put his seat belt on. He rubbed his hands up and down on his pants, clearly nervous.

"I swear if you mess up my car I'm going to kill you." He shook his head and turned off the radio.

"Is that a threat?" I said smiling. He clutched his seat as made my way down the street.

"Slow down, slow down." He yelled.

"Michael you really need to chill." I rolled my eyes at him.

"So where are we going?" I asked.

"You don't even know where we are going. That's reason enough why you should let me drive." He said clenching his jaw.

"You obviously know where we are going. Just give me directions." He shook his head and told me to turn right at the next stop light.

"You don't suck all that much." He admitted when we made it to the party he planned on taking me to. The street was lined with cars and music could be heard faintly from where we parked.
