Twisting, pulling, tugging. The gentleman styles my hair in a complicated fashion as the other two help me into my large dress. The woman's cheek is bruised a deep purple colour, her hazel eyes reveal her obvious anxiety yet the gorgeous smell of green apples and cinnamon wafts through the air. I don't blame her of her jealousy, she's in the presence of a powerful student who's parents are a queen and the Emperor. One day I may even rule her.
"You look good," Brent says at the doorway of a classroom. The school has formed at the auditorium this Monday morning, waiting for the presentation to begin; little do they know is that they will be seeing their Emperor and his daughter.
I don't respond straight away, just stare at myself with dull eyes in the mirror. I have felt strange for the entire weekend, nerves bundled at the pit of my stomach waiting for this day to come. Once they all find out, my life will change. I'll go to Divine Academy a couple of days a week, meet Angels, have more responsibilities meanwhile having everyone here treat me different. It's a jump. Hopefully I will make it to the other side, or plummet to my death trying.
"Please don't ignore me, Olivia. He was stressed and worried, I couldn't leave him in the dark."
"Surely that should have been my decision," I say stoically. "After all, it is my life you were discussing."
"And you're right, I see that now."
"You're only talking to me like that because you know my real identity now," I grimace in the mirror, staring at the ripples of golden fabric in dismay, the black corset shaping my body even more than my initial curves. My birthday is in a week's time, my transition will apparently be painful and difficult, however I've been ready for this all my life. I won't let a little pain get in the way of my potential.
"Maybe I am," he shrugs. "I have been a pain in your backside for many years. Treating you like shit, being a dickhead and fueling Felix's anger towards you."
"I did think he told you," I mumble.
"Well, he was grieving. But he realized he was angrier at himself than you. He hated the fact he failed the two people he loved," Brent clarifies.
"Love?" I scoff. "Felix has never loved me. We were only close friends due to our families being close, as well as Freya being my friend."
Brent only rolls his eyes and shakes his head, "I never thought you were this ignorant."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I accuse, arching a shaped brow through the reflection.
Amber merely looks at his watch before speaking to the tailor, "Is she finished?"
"Yes," he says with a bow in my direction. "It has been an honor to serve-"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," I wave a hand to silence him before stepping off of the pedestal. "To serve me, etcetera, etcetera. Let's go flappy-lips, I wanna go give some boys boners."
We walk down the empty halls, my tall heels clicking against the checkered marble, resounding like the ticking of a bomb. Brent's presence irritates me, his nonchalance to his obvious betrayal fuels my fires and makes me want to lash out; only I know I shouldn't. My dress looks gorgeous and I don't want to ruin my hair; nobody is worth that much fuss.
"I am sorry."
"Fuck off will you?" I groan, not even bothering to look at him, however I can feel his eyes on my figure. "You've managed to put me in an even worst mood than I was beforehand."
"Oh," he pauses. "Want to talk about it?"
"Shut up with that sentimental bullshit," I grumble. "You're annoying me even worst than beforehand."
"Well, you are Green Queen. It's my personal mission to be a pain in your backside."
"That's more like it," I mutter. "So stop sucking up, it's very irritating. You never bothered before, so don't start now. It freaks me out."
He can't help but chuckle as he turns the corner to the entryway where my father stands in a black suit and golden tie, blonde hair swept back to accentuate his jawline. The majority of students haven't even seen their Emperor, let alone between Blasphemy High's walls. He extends his arms to me and smiles warmly, "Daughter. You look stunning, the dress compliments you so well."
I embrace him stiffly before letting go, still not accustomed to such niceties. I hear a thud and turn to investigate, only to see the Brent Amber fallen on his knees, tilting his head down in greeting. The sight causes me to chuckle as Lucifer merely nods, "Thank you for escorting Olivia safely to my side, child of Greed. You may join the rest of your peers."
"I-It was an honour your Excellency," Brent stutters and I have to bite my lip out of amusement. The boy scrambles between the gap of the auditorium doors just as Principal Reynolds begins his cocky speech, as always.
"Was it a mistake for me to come here?" Questions Satan himself, appearing uncertain. "I mean, I know I am The Devil, but I hadn't realized how nerve-wracking my presence is."
"Are you kidding?" I giggle slightly. "It's the funniest thing. Brent Amber is an egotistical prick, having you here causing him to shake like a leaf is comedy."
Father only nods and wipes his palms down his trousers, obviously showing his nerves which surprises me.
"Hey," I say quietly, grasping his forearm gently. "It's okay. These are your loyal subjects, they're just awestruck is all. You need to be confident and self assured to have them know you're the real deal."
"I didn't know there were many fallen angels walking around," he says and flexes his angelic wings slightly.
"Just don't make a fool out of yourself. That stage? It's yours. Those subjects? Are yours. We wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for you, so show them your pride."
"And feed the pride demons?"
"Yup," I pop my lips. "Whilst your at it, make them envious too. Makes my days a million times better."
He only laughs before opening the doors as the Principal announces our names, taking my hand and walking us to the centre stage. It's as if everything turns into slow motion. I feel everyone's eyes land on us, taking in our very existence in awe and surprise. I watch as the lighting shifts from a white to a jade, we become bathed in envy. I feel the smooth, silky dress beneath my fingertips, the expensive material reassuring me; my other hand grips Lucifer's bicep with a tight grip, letting him know I am here for him. I hear the clapping become deathly silent as the entire room is filled with confusion, shock, curiosity. The prominent scent of green apples and cinnamon fill my nose as I exhale a composing breath.
"Demons," my father bellows, looking around each student and teacher with a calm smirk. "Thank you all for joining me on this very important day, where I have a paramount announcement concerning all of you. For years, I have kept my secret. I have kept my daughter hidden for her safety and most importantly, the conservation of the Empire's future. I am sure you have all heard of her, the soul daughter of Envy; Olivia Green. Yet now she is also the only child of Satan, the future Empress of Hell, and the daughter of The Morning Star."
For some reason, I think this will only bring chaos.
