They stare. I try to ignore it, yet it's tricky when everyone's blaming you for something. Something you could've controlled yet didn't expect. Everywhere I walk, I'm followed with the whispers, the judgement, the anger. They're too afraid to say it to my face, getting on Lucifer's bad side is certain death, however this is different. This is the impact of my decision. Which especially settles in deep once I'm finally alone.
I see him across the hall and my chest pains. The thought of what has happens chills me like his powers, the thoughts of all of our past interactions breezes through my mind as an unfamiliar, alien feeling claws at my mind. I continue walking, such a simple action that everyone takes for granted. Imagine one day it's all taken away, ripped from your being when you were only trying to do good.
His brunette hair is styled and freshly cut, face smiling and rosy with his eyes sparkling with mischief. His shenanigans always irritated me before, with his perseverance of being the most annoying person in the room, now I see that he just wanted attention or to make his closest friend laugh. He high-fives one of the members of the football team with a laugh before shaking his head, his gaze looking around before landing on me. His smile falters before he replenishes it, nodding in my direction.
Felix follows his gaze and frowns, expression shifting from fine to thunderous within seconds before he storms towards me. I'm not one for conflict, especially in front of others however it's too late, "What the fuck, Olivia?!"
"Back the fuck up, Fernsby," I warn. "You seriously do not want to piss me-"
"Piss you off?" he scoffs and shakes his head. "You're not the one in the fucking wheelchair!"
Silence.
I look away and grimace, thinking about my words very clearly before I begin to speak, "You weren't there. We tried everything, I mean everything before we got out."
"Why didn't you fucking pick someone else? Anyone else but him! Charlie offered and you declined for some fucked up reason, as if you knew you were signing-"
"Felix," I snap, eyes flashing and words burning. "Don't you fucking dare finish that sentence. I did what I thought was best, I didn't know what would happen."
"Yeah? Well you should've known better. Now my best mate is paralyzed because of-"
"Myself," Brent finishes calmly, wheeling slowly between the two of us with a small grimace. "I was getting too darn cocky, F. Green Queen actually saved me... on two accounts. Both times I went in over my head, both times I came out breathing because of her. I asked you to not do this in public, man."
"B-"
"F," Amber presses, looking at his friend with a solemn expression. "I seriously am the reason I am in this position. Yet she is the reason I am even here. Go take a walk man, I'll see you in human sciences."
Felix simply huffs and doesn't look me in the eye, spinning on his heel and stalking off, barging past students who were too busy admiring the drama. Sometimes I wish I was them.
"I'm sorry about that," Brent mutters, wiping a tiresome hand down his face. "I told him not to do that. I explained everything that happened yet he's just... confused."
"Why is he confused?" I question in anger, pissed off at the entire situation.
"A guy with conflicting emotions can lead him to do regretful things," Brent nods with his gaze zoned out. "I'll give it until break for him to actually apologize."
I simply nod and grasp my books tighter, "So... how are you?"
"Oh you know, just rolling on. Although I was off to a rough start this morning, yet these wheels just keep on turning," he grins, wiggling his brows in amusement.
