Question of the Week:
What do you think of the story's MC(s)?
What did you think of their introduction? Do you have a good sense of who they are and what drives them? Do they have interesting qualities? We're back to characters this week! Specifically, character introductions.
The way you introduce your characters is important so that the reader builds a lasting connection to your story, which makes a long-lasting readership.
Giving your character realistic and unique traits will help make a well-rounded character. But, how do you know you're doing a good job of introducing this awesome character to your readers? Here are some tips:
--Do not solely focus on physical descriptions.
The color of their eyes, hair, skin, etc. are nice details to have to build up an image in the reader's head, but in terms of character, it adds little personality. What they are like is much more important than what they look like.--Characterize through action.
You can build a more dynamic character if their character traits come out through the scenes. Instead of just saying what they're like, show us their qualities through the scenes. How do they respond to certain events? What do they think throughout major plot events? How do they interact with others?--Create Individuality and Depth.
Think about what drives your character and what makes them do what they're doing. What makes them different from the rest of the characters? Having these things in mind throughout the story will help you create a memorable character.
