Question of the Week:

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate your partner's imagery?
Do they engage all 5 senses with their descriptions? Do they use literary devices like metaphors, similes, etc to enhance it? Do you think the description might be lacking in some areas? Explain which.

This week I won't be giving any literary tips. :(

It's come to my attention that some members might not be commenting on their partner's story (a requirement of the club)

It's come to my attention that some members might not be commenting on their partner's story (a requirement of the club). BUBC requires that you comment on at least 3 chapters of your partner's book as well as answering the question of the week.

So, I'll use this space this week to remind you guys why commenting on each other's stories is super helpful and vital to a creative journey. :)

1. It helps keep writers motivated.
Having the in-line comment tool on your story is a blessing.

It provides direct feedback on segments of your story. This way, it's easy for the authors to see which parts need work or which parts are engaging readers the most.

This helps us realize our strengths and weaknesses with much more ease.

Plus, it's sooo nice to check your phone and see someone's comments. It can really make your day. :)

2. It helps with engagement.
It's no mystery that the more comments, reads, and votes a story has on Wattpad, the more your story gets picked up, shared, and ultimately read.

Though the numbers aren't what drive a lot of us, BOY does it feel nice to have a readership on something you worked really hard on.

If you provide feedback and commentary on your partner's book, it's more likely that the next person who reads will follow in your steps and leave comments of their own. This is a HUGE help, especially with writers who are just starting out.

3. It helps improve your reviewing skills, which in turn improves your own writing.
Practice makes perfect, yes. BUT! A big part of why I got better as a writer is joining communities with activities such as review for review, comment for comment, etc. It's the whole reason I started BUBC.

When you put some effort into noticing mistakes or weaknesses in your partner's writing, you'll be able to avoid the same mistakes in your own writing. You will start to recognize mistakes or parts that need revision or sprucing up with much more ease.

Please don't take this to heart. I've just received a lot of messages about this and I hoped this would clear it up.

If you're doing your part and commenting, that's awesome! Keep it up!

If you're not sure your reviewing skills are good enough, don't fret! That's why we have the question of the week. It gives you an idea of what you could look for next time you read.

The point is we do our best.
I hope this helps!

And answer the question of the week.

See you next Monday!
