Hello, lovelies!

Welcome to Week 19 at BUBC!

We've just begun spooky month and I'm starting with a hefty marathon of scary (or witchy, or anything fantastical) movies and series. Nothing like Halloween to get that inspiration going <3

Question of the Week:

Are you connected to the main character enough to keep reading?

*Big thanks to captaindekirk for sending some question suggestions my way :)*

There are many factors that go into hooking a reader in. One of the most vital ones being the story's protagonist or protagonists.

A main character should preferably have:

- Relatability
The main character should have flaws or situations or characteristics that can be relatable to the reader. This way the reader can connect to the story better and be tempted to continue reading.

- The ability to change
Throughout the story, your main character needs to develop. Throughout the challenges they face, they must develop and grow (for better or for worse: you decide).

- The ability to act in the face of their problems
The main character must act and move the story along. Secondary characters and external factors can weigh in greatly on the plot, but ultimately, it makes for a stronger protagonist if he/she/they act and move the plot forward.

This week's article breaks down what makes a great protagonist into even more categories. Take a gander to see how you can improve your MC:
