// The contract turned out to be a fake. It was a Chinese company that wanted to take my books to be published as their own. Fucking dickheads, man. Sorry to start this chapter off with a rant, I was excited to finally touch the finish line of becoming an author, but yeah. My dreams have been smashed and thrown out of the window. So my books are going nowhere, they are staying on this wonderful site where they don't give out opportunities to smaller authors :)

Hope's POV

I was sitting in complete darkness near the dining table, my right arm resting against it as I was sipping some nice red wine. No, not blood. I wasn't that kind of vampire that goes out in the night and drains blood out of innocent people. I cannot stop thinking about Layla. She was so delicate...something about her was putting me off which was just...not right. She looked absolutely miserable when I saw her just a few minutes ago. After I placed my lips against her soft cheek...my chest tingled with delight. I felt that familiar feeling before when I first captured my eyes on her. I felt so sad for her, having to cope with this amount of bullshit.

I let out a small sigh as I needed to see something in my room. I felt it calling to me, somehow. I was in my room within a flash, before I opened my lovely, black wooden cabinet. I then picked up a thin, white box which carried a special necklace inside of it. It was given to me by my mother before she got...executed. I can still remember her screaming cries. It all happened at a circus, but that was a horrific story that shouldn't be told. As I picked up the white box, I felt the necklace...vibrating? What? That was impossible...but it was.

I opened the box quickly, revealing the actual necklace itself. It was a light blue crystal, almost like a ice shard that doesn't melt in the daylight. It was rather precious to me and somehow it was glowing and vibrating in my hand as I put it in my hand. I looked closer at it, seeing that it had little purple swirls inside of it. I knew exactly what it meant. The crystal was telling me that Layla was my mate and indeed she was. "What do you want me to do with you?" I whispered at the crystal, wanting to know desperately on how to stop it from going crazy in my hand.

"Give it to your beautiful mate, my precious Hope." I heard my mother say to me. I widened my eyes at my mother's voice before I slowly looked up to see her ghostly form. I always believed in ghosts, but this was getting too much for me now. I watched my mother slowly bring her hand towards my cheek, and I actually felt her soothing touch. I was a mummy's girl.

"Mama..." I began to talk to her. "Yes, my little star?" she asked me, "Be quick about it, I have to leave again soon."

"What should I do about my mate?" I asked her a very simple question.

"All you can do now is to adore her. Take the necklace and put it around her neck. It will make her feel even more protected by you."

"Okay, mama...be sure to visit me again sometime."

"I will, my shining star. Mama loves you."

I then watched her ghostly form turn invisible...
