Layla's POV

I began to flutter my eyes open at the smell of breakfast being made downstairs. I hope I didn't upset Hope too much, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make it out alive because you know, vampires. They drink blood, scare people, play with them...they were animals!

But, Hope wasn't an animal. She was a person with a kind heart...which was not beating because she was a vampire. A vampire who wants to help a human, like me. I had to apologise to her for pushing her away. I don't know her past, but it was clearly hurting her. I sat up on my bed, before I slowly moved off it to wear some slippers on my feet which was given to me by her, along with a silk dark blue robe. That was another example that she wanted to help me. I was completely helpless.

"Get off your ass, Layla..." I mumbled to myself before I made the move to open the door and slowly walked downstairs to see what Hope was making.

I wanted to give Hope some flowers to show my appreciation about her letting me stay here until I get a new place and a job. I had no money, so it looks like I have to go outside and try and find some beautiful flowers or some daisies to make a bracelet...but that will wilt! What the hell should I give her?

"Just in time, Layla. Breakfast is ready. Sit down at the dining table, please." Hope told me, before I followed her instruction and sat down at the table. I gave a small smile at her, before I watched her place down the plate in front of me. Scrambled eggs and bacon, with a slice of white toast. She was a fantastic cook.

I began to tuck into my food, before my eyes landed on a bowl of fresh strawberries being gently placed down. Then, Hope sat down next to me. "You like strawberries? I thought vampires can't eat normal human food." I asked her, my hand covering my mouth as I started to chew. I was trying my best to be polite at the table. "I always loved eating them. When my mother was pregnant with me, she told me that her craving was strawberries. So her love for fresh fruit was passed onto me." she replied. Her eyes then were locked onto mine as she picked up another strawberry and placed it into her mouth. There were no fangs for the moment, which was great to see. Seeing her fangs that night...just terrifying.

I nodded, finding that cute. Whatever happened to her mother, must have been hugely upsetting. Hope was starting to become a open book towards me, and I didn't know why. We were just good friends. Or something more?

A few silent minutes later, I was finished with eating. Just about Hope was to pick up my plate, I went ahead of her as I decided to clean my own dish up. "You are such a polite young woman, aren't you?" I heard her compliment me, making my cheeks boil up a little. "I never had a compliment before. You are the first one to ever do that." I told her, while placing the dish onto the drying rack.

"Really? Well, I can also say that you are the best thing that has ever happened to me." Whoa!

I turned around in complete surprise, not knowing what to say back. I was blushing quite heavily at her, which to me was not polite. "I like you too..." I began to tell her, "But?" she asked, wanting to know the other part of the sentence. "Are we just friends? You know, I can take that as a compliment but saying that I am the best thing that has ever happened to you? I don't know how to take that..."

Then, I watched her stand up as she walked towards me, grabbing something from her pocket of her light purple robe. Suddenly, I watched her slowly take out a necklace. There was a light blue crystal that was glowing pretty brightly, making my eyes squeeze itself shut. Then, I felt Hope spin me around, so that I was now facing the wall instead of facing her. Fair enough.

But wait, I felt her move my head to the side with her cold fingers, shooting a electrical spark down my spine. What was that?

"My mother told me to give this necklace to someone that I adore and trust. That person is you." Hope talked lowly into my ear, before I opened my eyes and immediately looked down to see that the glowing crystal wasn't glowing anymore. The beautiful light blue has turned purple. "W...What?" I asked her in shock, turning around to see that her eyes were the same colour.

She then started to lean in, before I placed my hand against her chest, pushing her away. "I am really sorry to be saying this but...I am not ready for another relationship. Give me time...please." I told her softly, before I began to walk away from her, back upstairs and locked myself in my room for the rest of the day.
