Layla's POV
I was quite happily sat down at the dining table, watching Hope cook until she suddenly stopped. "Hope? What's the matter?" I asked her, my fingers nervously tapping against the wood as I was waiting for an answer, but never got one. Was she having a weird moment with herself? I let out a small deep sigh as I slowly stood up from my chair and walked over to her. Luckily, she was just making the mixture of the pancakes. None of the strawberries were cut yet, which I had to do myself now because my poor Hope was frozen on the spot from something.
"If you can hear me Hope, I will continue from here. I need to pick you up and take you upstairs, so let me do that now..." I told her before I moved her hands away from the counter and gently started to pick her up. She made a small noise, pretty much a whimper as I held her bridal style. I then slowly began to walk with her in my arms, walking past the living room and towards the bottom of the stairs. I looked down at her, checking to see if she was alright.
Her red beautiful eyes were wide open, little streams of tears flowing down her cheeks as I took a small deep breath and carried her upstairs. "What...kind of..." I heard her begin to say which alarmed me to be a little bit faster before she snaps out of this weird thing that she was currently having. I quickly walked to our bedroom and carefully placed her down on the mattress. "I will make the pancakes, then I will come right back up and stay with you until you wake up." I said to her before I watched her slowly nod. So she was coming out of it...but was still in it.
I then simply left the room, before I returned to the kitchen.
About ten minutes later, I carried two plates up to the bedroom. One was full of pancakes, and one was extra strawberries in case Hope wanted them. "Thank you, baby girl." Hope thanked me which made me look up to see her smiling at me. "What happened?" I asked her, wanting to know what she had as I placed down the two plates in the middle of the bed. Then, I walked over to the other side of the bed and climbed onto it next to Hope.
She wrapped her arm around my waist before she let out a heavy sigh, "I had a very old memory pop up in my head as I was making the mixture. It happened several years ago to me, but in reality it was over one hundred years ago." she began to tell me, while picking up the plate of strawberries. I watched her take one strawberry before she brought it up to my mouth. I of course opened my mouth, letting her place one in. The strawberries were so sweet and delicious, no wonder why Hope loved them so much. "The story that I am about to tell you is quite upsetting."
"Then why are you telling me now?" I asked her as I was finishing eating the strawberry.
"You are my mate and I want you to know my backstory. Can I start?" she then asked me, telling me off slightly. I nodded as my reply. Hope then placed the plate down, pushing it back towards the pancakes which were getting a bit cold.
"Me and my mother lived in a small caravan with many other people which were performers for a circus called 'The Forgotten And The Lonely'. Well, we were all performers for a man called Matthew. He was the son of his father whose name was Arthur. They were very rich while the rest of us were living in poor conditions. One day, my mother and I were busy cooking some pancakes until we were stopped by a female child who had a eye patch because she was blind in one eye. My mother was trying to offer her some of our breakfast to try and push her away in a kind way, but it didn't work out too well. Matthew came out of the shit-smelling circus tent to confront my mother about not practising for the big performance that we had coming up the following night..."
Hope then paused for a few seconds, picking up a strawberry as she began to eat it. After that, she continued with her backstory.
"We never liked working for those two bastards, so my mother began to argue with him about how unfair our lives were and she kept screaming at him to leave us alone in peace to have some family time together as we were forced to obey his commands like we were his personal slaves. As my mother argued with him, everyone from the tent came out to see what was going on. I was 13 at the time so I was a young teenager, anyway, Matthew had enough of my mother's continuous action so he slapped her to warn her to not go any further. Then, my mother noticed everyone was watching them argue which made her freak out even more. She turned her attention back to Matthew before she just went absolutely mental and yelled as loud as she can..."
"ANIMALS IN A FUCKING CAGE! WE ARE LITERALLY ANIMALS THAT OBEY COMMANDS FROM THEIR OWNERS! WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS THAT HAVE NOWHERE TO GO!" I watched her raise her hands up in the hair, waving them about like she just didn't care anymore. I stood up and wrapped my arms around her waist, seeing if I can calm her down until Matthew pushed my mother down which took me down too and ended up touching the fire that burned my wrist...
Then, I watched the horrific fight commence as my mother got up immediately and began to punch the living hell out of him. A few of her friends cheered her on until Matthew grabbed her by the throat and choked her unconscious. But that wasn't all...
"I need two volunteers to carry this demon to the fire pit, now!" Matthew ordered the crowd, "And someone grab her child."
"What did she do?! She did nothing wrong!" one of my mother's friends shouted at him before I was grabbed from behind. I screamed for my mother as I watched her get picked up by two men from the crowd. I struggled against the person who was behind me, but only to feel their arms get tighter. Tears were streaming down my face as I watched my mother get taken away...
"My mother woke up screaming for me, before I heard her scream bloody murder as some acid got thrown on her, causing her to go into flames. Then, I heard a gunshot directly into her head, and that was the end of my mother..." Hope finally finished telling me, her voice becoming shaky as she began to cry in front of me.
I wrapped my arms around my lover, comforting her the best that I can as she continued to sob into my shoulder. "Hope...it's okay...I'm here." I cooed softly into her ear. I kissed her cheek several times which made her calm down almost immediately. She then pulled away from me before she wiped her eyes. "I'm sorry..." she began to say to me before I pressed my lips against hers. She responded by kissing me back quite deeply and softly, letting me know that she was thankful that I was with her.
