'I froze at what I saw.'
~Lefty's POV~
"H-Helpy..?" I shakily approached the unconscious body laying in the center of the kitchen. I didn't see it at first, but as I got closer I noticed.. Blood. I dropped to my knees beside him and rolled him over to see a slit in the side of his neck.
I felt myself go numb as tears fell down my face. Was it all an act? All his smiles, were they fake like mine? I pushed the questions away as I gently picked Helpy up off the ground. His heart was still beating, thank god. But how long would that last?
The nearest hospital was about two towns over, so that was out of the question. I laid him down on his bed, rushing to get towels and bandages. When I got back, I immediately pressed a small hand-towel against the wound, setting a large gauze pad over it when I finished cleaning. He didn't move, but he was alive. I set the "medical" stuff aside and left his room.
I walked to the kitchen and found a knife on the counter. It hurt worse than the pain I put myself through to see it. Why? Why'd he try? I just stared at the blade as it rested mockingly. I noticed a note beside it and picked it up, starting to read it.
Lefty,
I'm sorry, but I couldn't take it anymore. The pain you're in doesn't compare to how I feel, but it's close enough. I can't stand seeing you so broken, and it's hard to want to stay alive knowing the person you hold closest does bad things to themself. I know you'd understand what I mean. I know what you do. I know you've done it for a long time. What you don't know is I'm the same. The only difference is my tolerance. It's less, hence the reason I'm doing this. We'll see each other again.. - Helpy.
I set the note back down, wiping my eyes. It's my fault he's in this position. Words couldn't describe how I felt. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and called the first number that came to my mind. Thankfully, he picked up immediately.
"Hello?"
"Hey Red.." I tried to not sound like I had been crying, which was hard.
"Lefty! Hey! Haven't talked to you in awhile! What's up?" He seemed to be in a good mood.
"Are you busy..?"
"Not at the moment, why? You need me?" His voice sounded concerned.
"I need you home now. It's an emergency.."
"What happened??" Red urged.
"You'll see.."
"Be there in an hour." He hung up. I sighed, walking back to Helpy's room.
"I know you aren't awake, but.." I sat at the end of the bed.
"I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. I never meant for things to be like this. I never wanted this to happen. I could've been a better brother, and I wasn't. I'm a horrible brother; A horrible person in general." I glanced at Helpy as he shifted slightly. I sighed. "I'll let you rest now."
The next hour consisted of my constantly checking on him as I waited for Red. The doorbell rang; I bolted over to the door and opened it.
"Hey-" I cut Red off with a tight hug. I was crying like a 4 year old who just lost his candy. Red hugged me back. "Are you okay..?" He continued.
