'I hope this lasts forever.'

~Molten's POV~

Although it feels like just yesterday, It's been about four days since Lefty and I became a thing. We haven't really done much except cuddle. I don't mind, though. I love affection of any kind.

"I have a kinda personal question." Lefty interrupted my thoughts.

"What is it?" I tilted my head, looking at him as he laid his head on my chest. We were just laying in bed, being lazy.

"You don't have to answer it if you don't want to, but where do you come from? It's kinda strange that you just lived in the woods while attending school." He must've noticed me tense up as he continued. "Again, you don't have to answer."

"No, I guess I should say." I sighed. "You wanna know the whole story?"

"Only if you're comfortable with telling me, yes."

"Alright then.."

~Flashback- Third Person POV~

It was a rainy day. Molten was sitting in his yard under a tree, unsupervised. His parents were inside, fighting. This was a usual thing for the family. Molten would wait outside for about an hour or two. He did this because he couldn't stand fighting, whether is was physical or verbal. He hated it. He grew tough due to the conditions he's have to wait in. Rain, thunder, snow, drought, anything. It didn't matter. Molten covered his ears and flattened the fluffy brown and white bear ones atop his head as his parents' yelling became louder and louder by the second.

"Maybe if you didn't force me into this house we'd be happy!" His mother screamed.

"Maybe if you cooperated we could've had a better life together!" His father retaliated.

A crash was heard. Molten looked towards the direction of the sound to see that a window had shattered. He sighed, standing up. He'd be the one to clean up the mess, as was the case every other time this had happened. As he approached the window, his mother jumped out of it, covered in cuts and bruises. She grabbed Molten, running off towards the street. Molten didn't question, as he knew his mother had been planning on leaving at any point. He pulled himself free of his mother's grasp and ran beside her.

"Where exactly are we going?" Molten questioned.

"I don't know sweety, but we're going as far away from here as we can. He isn't gonna hurt us anymore." His mother stopped and hugged Molten for a quick second. He nodded, continuing to follow his mother into the woods.

Some time later, they stopped within a ring of trees. Molten looked at his mother, who was laying on the grass, panting.

She looks exhausted.. He thought. He sat down beside her and studied her injuries. Nothing major, at least by the looks of it. He soon learned that he was wrong by his assumption.

"Molten, sweety, I don't think I'm going to make it any further." His mother's heartbeat was slowing due to a large gash on her back that was hidden by her shirt and by the fact that she was laying down. Molten stared at her, tears threatening to leave his eyes.

"Y-you can't go.. Please.." His voice shook.

"I'm sorry. Can you promise me one thing?" His mother smiled, the color fading from her eyes.

"Anything!" Molten's mother wiped the tears off his cheeks.

"Be strong." She shut her eyes as her heart stopped.

Molten stared in disbelief. He didn't know what to do. Didn't know how to survive. How was he gonna get food? He was only 6. He stood up, leaving his mother's body in the grass. He began walking towards the nearest town, but not the one he came from.

As he wandered, so did his thoughts. He wanted to know why things happened the way they did. He began to think it was his fault his mother died. His father never liked him. Molten was constantly called a disappointment or a failure, even though he hadn't done anything wrong. His thoughts began to get the best of him. He tried thinking of the best way to punish himself, and eventually came up with the idea to harm his ears. He thought that was why he was hated, so he believed his mother would've been happy. He picked a sharp rock off the ground and began to attack the fluffy ears atop his head, ignoring the pain telling him to stop.

Minutes after he finished, Molten was at a river, looking at what he'd done to himself. Tears fell down his face, joining with the already flowing water in front of him. He couldn't change the past, and he only hoped this would help the future.

Over the course of the next four years, Molten had learned to pickpocket and steal so he could survive. He was too afraid to ask anyone for help. He'd been taught that normal humans were mean and cruel towards his kind, or people with animal features. Why? They never told him.

Molten was walking along a sidewalk, wearing a hoodie he had purchased using money he stole, when someone stopped him. He looked up, instantly regretting that choice. The person who stopped him punched him in the face. Molten stumbled back, hands covering his now bloody nose. He quietly growled, looking at the man who he now recognized to be his father.

"Long time no see, brat." He sounded drunk, which wasn't a surprise for Molten. He was always drunk before. "Where ya been hidin'?"

"Nowhere of your concern." Molten straightened himself and wiped his nose.

"Ehh? Why's 'at?" His father narrowed his eyes.

"Because." Molten started walking away.

"Ey, that's a mistake you're makin'. Nobody walks away from me." His father gripped his shoulder, turning him around. Molten growled quietly.

"Leave me the hell alone!" He shouted, drawing people's attention. His father pulled a knife out of his pocket.

"Kid, you ruined my life. I ain't leaving you alone." He smiled wickedly. Molten whimpered.

"Someone grab the kid!" A voice shouted from the gathered crowd.

"Get the police!" Another spoke up.

Molten's father lunged at him, knife at the ready. Molten was shoved out of the way as the knife was buried into another person's skin. He began running, not looking back.

He wound up in the woods again, and that is where he remained for the next 7 years.

~Flashback End- Molten's POV~

"And that's why I was in the woods." I finished summarizing everything in a way Lefty would understand. Many tears were shed as I told the story, considering I'd never said it out loud to anyone before. It felt nice to talk about it, like a weight off my shoulders.

"Wow.." Lefty just stared at me. "That's..."

"Boring, I know. You've probably heard something like it before." I sighed.

"I haven't.. I'm speechless." Lefty hugged me tight. I returned the hug as he continued. "I'm so sorry that that happened. I hope I can change your future.."

"You already have, love." I kissed his neck, as his face was behind me. He pulled away, smiling.

Lefty seemed to have fully processed everything after about a minute.

"Wait." He started.

"Hm?"

"You have features and you never told me??" Lefty crossed his arms.

"I was going to, but I forgot, eheh.." I rubbed the back of my neck.

"Show me!" He looked excited now. I sighed.

"Alright, fine..But you heard what I said about them being damaged." I messed up my hair, causing my ears to appear. I glanced in the mirror. Yup, didn't look any better than last time.

"Wow..You weren't kidding.." He lifted his hand as if asking to touch them. I nodded.

Lefty began gently petting my ears. I shut my eyes, leaning into his touch. It felt nice, soothing, relaxing. He giggled. I nuzzled his hand. I didn't care about my past.

I only cared about the future now.

pretty basic in terms of backstory, sorry.
