Chapter 8:

Ahsoka POV:

I sit on the soft chair in Ruby's room, rocking her back to sleep. I just fed her.

Her eyes close shut and her breathing soften. I look at her and enjoy the quietness. Ruby's adorable. I love her. She looks so at peace and I smile.

After a few minutes, I kiss her forehead lightly and then place her in her crib.

She stirs but the sleep takes over.

I smile before walking out and closing the door.

Maybe I should take a nap too?

Just as I'm about to walk into my room, there's a knock on the door which makes me groan. Forget the nap.

I walk downstairs and open the door.

Mom has a grin on her face with bags around her arms. When I'm about to let her in, he comes into my vision.

I freeze. What. Is. He. Doing. Here.

"Ahsoka," Mom starts saying. "We don't want to stand here all day." Mom is acting as if this is all normal.

She pushes past me and then he follows her.

She puts the bags on the table and so does Anakin.

What is going on?

"I went grocery shopping," Mom says. "I might have bought a few extra things, but thank you," Mom motions to Anakin. "This young man was here to help.

So she doesn't know Anakin.

"You let a stranger help you?" I ask irritated. That was an irrational decision of hers. I mean even if it's Anakin and I believe he's no threat, still what if it wasn't him? What if it was someone dangerous? Or worse a man of Cree sent by him?

"I did," she says. "I got a good feeling about him."

Anakin clears his throat and we look at him.

"It was a pleasure helping you, ma'am," he says. "But I think it's my time to leave."

Mom's smile falls and I feel guilty.

Why am I so blunt? Everything I say comes out rude.

"I suppose it is," Mom walks to him and hugs him. He seems surprised but hugs him back.

When they break apart, Mom whispers something to him. He chuckles and nods.

He turns to leave but something inside me snaps. Damn me for giving him a chance.

"Wait!"

My back is to him, but the door hasn't opened yet, so I know he hasn't left yet.

I turn around and he has a raised eyebrow.

"Can we talk?"

Mom gasps and I roll my eyes.

Anakin nods but he doesn't show any emotions.

I turn and give a look at Mom. I don't want her to hear our conversation. She seems confused before she understands and then walks upstairs. Probably to Ruby's room.

I turn around and face Anakin again.

"You just love helping people at the store, don't you?" I ask with a chuckle.

He chuckles. "I love helping people."

There's an awkward silence, but I'm the one who wanted to talk, so might as well.
