Chapter 19

Lumen's POV (rewind to when Joule and Jugg were talking)

As Joule told the man what I told her, I was thinking hard, making it so she can't hear me. Joule doesn't know I can do that.

I knew what would happen when I stepped into the Garden. It's why I had Joule be so cooperative.

Once that happens, Joule won't be hunted anymore. That's all I could want.

For a scientist, Juggernaut isn't that smart. He didn't even realize it was me that opened the Garden.

Zonda made it recognize two people. Herself...

And Mytyl. I didn't know if it would open, because I was with Joule, not Mytyl.

The door opened, I closed the door immediately after. Can't have GV disrupt this. It's for her own good.

I appeared, floating, in the Garden. The Garden had the power to separate people with more than one conciousness, and vice versa.

Joule then stumbled to the ground, and I knew she felt it.

My butterfly wings dissapeared, so I stopped floating, standing on solid ground for the first time.

My hair also changed to a slightly darker shade. Suppose I'll get it back when I sing.

Juggernaut marched over to me and gave me a hard shove, when his hand didn't go through, a look of realization appeared on his face.

"You planned this, didn't you?" I nodded silently.

I moved to face Joule. She had a shocked look on her face, tears in her eyes. She asked me one thing.

"Why?"

I took a deep breath.

"I knew if we separated here, Sumeragi wouldn't go after you anymore. That's all I could ever want. We shared a mind. You wanted it too."

"Not like this! I.... I just... don't understand why."

I walked over to her, stumbling once, and hugged Joule tightly. She resisted at first, but hugged me just as tightly, crying into my shoulder. I'd let her think this through for as long as she needed.

I turned to Juggernaut. "Experiment on me all you like, but Joule leaves with GV."

He nodded silently. "I'll let them go."

He opened a wormhole, teleporting away. I turned to Joule.

"You have to leave with GV, honey."

She shook her head, hugging me tighter. "No, you can come with us, Lumen! Please..."

I played with her hair as I kept talking. "You know I can't go with you. They would just keep chasing us."

I used my Septima to open the Garden, and gently pushed her through, closing it after.

I knew that GV would take care of her.

I heard the familiar sound of a wormhole opening as Juggernaut reappeared. He crossed his arms.

"That's it? Your just going to give yourself up?"

I shook my head, smiling. "Nope. You made a mistake letting Joule enter here. I'm an adept now. I can do more than boost people."

"Song: Halting Step!"

Juggernaut gasped as he was held in place. Now I have to hide until they leave...

Gunvolt's POV

As we began looking through Eden, I was immediately surprised to see a sniffling Joule running towards me. I ran forward to meet her halfway.
