The Living World

12:30pm

It was a quiet night, the sky clear of any clouds, revealing the bright glowing moon and stars that twinkled around it.

The neighborhood was silent, the only sound being the occasional cricket that would make chirping sounds.

One of the houses in this neighborhood was a two-story, shingle house, not too big.

There was a path leading from the sidewalk to the house with a two car garage and driveway beside it. The mailbox was mounted on the wall beside the door, allowing easy access to receive the mail when it arrives.

The only light shining was coming from the upstairs window above the door, the resident of that said room still being awake. The window was open, allowing some fresh air to filter in, the curtains open and moving slightly from the wind.

A glowing red portal suddenly opened from around the corner of the house, allowing a lone figure to jump through, his hooves landing softly on the healthy green grass.

On the other side of the portal were two smaller figures, both the same height with glowing yellow eyes. They only appeared as silhouettes though, with a pair of wings, horns and a tail each.

The figure was wearing all black, a single strap backpack slung over his back. This figure also had a pair of horns and a long tail, his legs digitigrade. He was wearing a pair of high-tech goggles that glowed yellow in the darkness.

The figure turned back around, giving the thumbs up to indicate everything as all clear.

The two small figures nodded in understanding.

The figure turned back around and began sneaking around the side of the house, being careful not to let his hooves make any sound when he reached the concrete.

Once at the front door, the figure took a black envelope out of his backpack, putting it in the mailbox.

As he was about to turn around and head back to the portal, a human had been walking by, spotting the silhouette of the lone figure.

“Hey! What do you think you’re doing up there?” called the human, narrowing his eyes in confusion.

The silhouette turned in shock, staring at the human through his glowing yellow goggles, his tail swishing back and forth in annoyance.

The human was shocked to see this, taking note of the tail, horns, and glowing yellow eyes.

“H-Hey! HEY WAIT! GET BACK HERE YOU DEMON!” yelled the human, seeing the silhouette quickly dashing around to the side of the house, heading back to the portal.

As the human tried to chase the figure, they halted in their tracks when they saw the strange creature jumping through the portal, turning and glaring in anger with two smaller figures on either side of it.

The human could only watch as the portal closed, leaving no trace that anything had been there.

The human just stood and stared in shock for a solid minute before glancing down at the bottle in-hand.

“I think I’m done drinking alcohol for the rest of my life…” muttered the human, turning and walking away, tossing the bottle into the recycling bin that was on the curb.

As the person walked away, the resident of the room above the door where the figure had been came to see what was going on, after hearing the commotion that happened just moments ago.
