"Well this is a sight I never thought I'd see" Michael grinned at the girl lying upside down on one of the beanbags and walked towards the empty bowls and bottles. He gently put the stuff he had down then made way over to the beanbag he previously sat on and sat upside down like Katherine did. His fingers laced over his stomach while he blinked, staring into space. Her doing the same thing.
"So whatcha thinking about?" Michael let out a puff of air before turning his head to look at the short black haired girl. He was unable to read the features on her face as they both laid on the backs with their bum still resting on the beanbag.
"Have you ever just...minded your own business like everything's still pretty normal until there's this guy that suddenly walks in your life. He's just stays there until you suddenly realize," She paused as she had dropped her arm that was flailing in the air to her stomach. It took him awhile to realize that she'd been moving towards him to the point their elbows were touching. Michael let out a nervous chuckle "Well, I wouldn't say it's a he" Katherine chuckled back and stayed silent until,
"Say there's this person you pass in the hall everyday" She continued looking at the ceiling "You've known him since the first day" Her fingers drummed on her stomach as she had a small smile creeping up onto her face "You're used to thinking about him in a certain way from the persona that he displayed and then something changes" Michael had confusion written on his face as he stared at her until her eyes met his and that's when he suddenly felt butterflies in his stomach. "And he changes..."
Michael felt his cheeks heat up. His hands had the fabric of his hoodie balled up in his fists as he felt them get clammy. "Care uh care to elaborate?" He stuttered, lightly scratching the side of his neck. There's this annoying voice in his head that's asking,
Is she talking about me?
He tried to push it aside when she spoke up again. "Say there's this person you don't know that well" He tried to wipe his hands on his pants when he felt something soft in his left hand.
She laced her fingers in his.
She was holding Michael's hand.
Oh she is totally into you.
He lifted his right hand up and smacked his own head, hoping that Katherine didn't notice. "You thought that you had him pegged but you can tell he's gone from a guy that you'd never be into into a guy that you'd kinda be into" She laughed. "A guy that I'd never be into into a guy that I'd kinda be into" Michael felt her squeeze his hand and he let out a shaky breath. "Is he worth it?" He snapped his head at her direction to see she was looking at him again. "Mikey? Is he?"
Too much infatuation filled his mind as he was convinced it was indeed him that she was talking about. Michael nodded, not giving it a second thought of it probably being another guy. "Absolutely" Katherine laughed again, the sound like music to Michael's ears. "I know that it's weird but it's totally true" She sighed, her hand removing from his. Katherine twisted around and letting her weight fall onto her elbows. "The guy that I'd kinda be into" The scene where they both danced and almost kissed flashed back into his mind as she inched closer again.
"The guy that you'd kinda be into" Michael's voice was hushed as Katherine's hand found it's way back to his own that was clutching his hoodie. She squeezed his hand again and looked at his brown eyes. "Yeah, the guy that I'd kinda be into is" Michael gulped as he waited for her to continue, biting on his lowerlip.
"Nick" He immediately widen his eyes, his mouth not letting him speak. He knew he couldn't trust his voice but he tried anyway "What?" He croaked out, his throat feeling parched.
"Michael?" His eyes shot open. It was a dream. Thank God. Although, he turned to see Katherine with a worried expression on her face.
After Christine and Jeremy left, the two of them decided to go ahead and watch a movie. Well, two. The first being The red tattoo and the second being Heathers. As soon as the credits rolled in, Katherine dozed off. Michael did too until he woke her up by stirring on her lap.
Michael's eyes widen, looking up at the girl that appeared in his dreams. Or the girl of his dreams, more like. "Hey, you okay?" Katherine ran her fingers through his hair. He blinked several times and shook his head, checking if he was still dreaming. "Uhm" Michael cleared his throat and dragged his hand down his face. He looked back at her again through his fingers and sat up gently.
"I just had a dream that's all. Uhm" He stuttered out words. Katherine straightened up her back and rubbed her eyes, yawning. She was about say something else when she absentmindedly turned her phone on, revealing that it was 12am. "Shit" It was her time to panic as she struggled to find her parents' contacts. Michael's hand reached over and slowly lowered her phone down "Your parents already called, I told them I could drive you home but they said it's safer if you stayed the night instead"
She nodded and placed the phone back in her bag. The girl slouched down the beanbag, with Michael doing the same until they both were flat on the ground. Both of them staring into the utter darkness of the room.
"So uh, you can take my bed and I'll go sleep on the couch" She heard him shift and sit up, about to leave. Katherine sat up and managed to grab his hand. "You don't have to! I'm the guest here, I think I shou-" "No no. I wouldn't allow that. Plus I think my parents would yeet me back in the womb if they found out I did" Michael was glad it was pitch black or else the blush he so did have would be evident. The girl chuckled and pulled herself up to his level.
"I don't think I'd be fine with sleeping in a random dark basement" She laughs "I don't think you'd also be fine with sleeping with a rando" He joked, blushing more at the thought. "We can build a pillow barrier, come on" She pulled him to her, blindly looking for the bed in the corner of the room.
The sound of bottles being knocked over and the scrunching of empty chip packets bounced off the walls while walking over to the mattress.
"Katherine?" "Yes?" "The bed is over at the other side of the room"
When the both of them found where theyp were going, Katherine fell dead asleep. To Michael's dismay (not really), Kath snoozed so fast that she forgot about building the pillow barrier. Michael found his phone on his nightstand and turned it on for a bit of light. Not strong enough for Katherine to wake up but enough for him to seewhile fixing the pillows.
Her back was facing Michael's so it wasn't a problem barricading the two of them, just as she said, for he was afraid Katherine would think he took advantage of her like his friends thought he would. No no. Michael? Take advantage of a woman? Hah, in what universe.
Before placing the last pillow that separated their heads, Michael's breath hitched as Katherine turned over. The light shone on her face. Katherine's used to be grumpy features fading as a soft one takes over. Her usually furrowed brows relaxed, her jaw unclenched. She looked peaceful.
Michael smiled to himself before carefully placing the last pillow in between them. He tossed the kicked blanket on both of them as he laid sideways and hugged the pillow. Michael closed his eyes but opened quickly after he felt Katherine's arm over his as she too, was hugging the pillow.
Half of his was vision blocked by the cushion as he took another good look at her again before dozing off himself with a blush and a bashful smile on his face.
