"Come with us" They said.
"It'll be fun" They said.
Here I am standing alone, dressed as Jennifer Parker from Back To The Future in the middle of the room filled with sketchy people I don't know, in Jake's halloween party. I know it isn't much and people are most likely to just see me as someone who's lazy to put on a "real" costume but I didn't feel like putting much effort. Awkward smiles were thrown and I immediately wanted to go to a private room by myself but I can't, you know why? Because Jake, the so called host, is probably fucking someone right now and we both know that wouldn't be a pleasant sight.
Jeremy and Christine? No, not fucking. More like having a relationship goals thing outside in the backyard. Chloe was nowhere to be seen while Brooke and Jenna were drunk dancing with some random assholes which would should concern me but there's something in me saying that it isn't my business. Rich being Rich was getting carried by a crowd as he drank down some soda. I remember him telling me he hates anything alcoholic.
And Michael...
He isn't here.
I knew he wasn't going but Chloe insisted me into coming, regardless Michael being here or not. I knew about how he feels being in large crowds and the fear of being left alone again. I understood that but Chloe really wanted me to come and that part is what I don't understand.
That's a lie.
I knew exactly why Chloe wanted me to come.
"Hey, you alright?" I turn around to see the freckled covered curly who wore a Marty Mcfly costume, hand me a drink. I smile up at the boy and nod my head. "Yeah, just a bit spaced out, that's all" He nodded, taking a sip of his drink. As he did, I lifted my cup and took in the scent. My nose scrunches up, lowering my hand down.
Yeah, I drink but only that once. I don't know why. That night I was drowning in my own thoughts and all I could find decent enough to silence them is that bottle Jake had. This one, though. It reeks like hell and besides, I don't trust drinks that are from parties.
For the last 2 months, I swear Chloe misunderstood my feelings about Michael. She introduced me properly to Nick as a way to help me forget all about the guy that I actually like. The thing is, I don't want to. Why would I want that? I like him, is that so bad? I didn't want to hurt both Chloe and Nick just by saying I'm not interested but I just decided to give it a try.
I stared at the drink in my hand, wondering why I even drank in the first place. My hands gripped the red plastic cup, the liquid rising up slowly. "Hey, are you sure you're okay?" "Hm?" I nodded my head, sighing as I placed the cup down on the coffee table filled with other cups, bottles, spilt beer and empty casings of candy and condoms.
"I just need to use the restroom and freshen up" Nick smiled, nodding and moving out of my way as I pushed through the crowded sweaty teenagers. I made my way across the room to the stairs as I've got nowhere to go, seeing I can't walk back to my place late at night nor do I trust Nick enough to drive me home.
What?
Forget about my first day with Michael, I was too caught from his geekiness so shut up. All Nick ever did was make me feel like I'm always watched. I feel as a pair of eyes were burning through my back. Turning, I saw Nick divert his eyes somewhere else quickly as I did.
"Yo! Kath! Where ya goin?" I jump a bit to see Jenna, drunk out of her mind, walking- or stumbling across to me. "Just going to the bathroom" "OooOooOh, meeting someone there??" She giggled, slinging an arm around my shoulders as soon as she reached me. I grimaced at the smell as she spoke. "Geez, how many did you drink?" "OhHhHhhH just a couple. SoOooOo?" She slurred, waiting for me to answer her question as she raised her red cup at me. "I just have to use the toilet, that's all" I laugh at her state as she pat my shoulder. At the corner of my eye, I saw a familiar jacket at the end of the steps upstairs run off. I take a quick look behind me to see Nick talking to a group of people. It's probably just someone with a similar costume so I brushed it off.
