The following day, Heisuke found herself having her lunch break with Haruka, Makoto and Nagisa at the front lawns rather than the roof. They had their lunch in silence but the moment their bentos were set down, the four of them began to conspire as to what may have caused Rin to act like that when he met them after such a long time.
Heisuke had a clear-cut idea to why Rin had come out and challenged Haruka into such an impromptu swimming race. But she did not mention her and Haruka's meeting with Rin to Makoto and Nagisa, especially when Haruka gave her that strong look as soon as the topic was touched.
"A dream...?" Haruka guessed rather dismissively, laying across the grass in front of Heisuke, Haruka and Makoto. His head was tucked snugly over his arm.
"It wasn't a dream!" Makoto exclaimed immediately and Heisuke let out a sigh as she reached out and grabbed a few strands of Haruka's black hair, playing with them lightly.
"I don't get it, though," Nagisa said thoughtfully while Haruka glanced at Heisuke's face. "Rin-Chan was really weird," Heisuke gave him a weary look; he had repeated that for the umpteenth time now.
"Lookalike," Haruka declared next and Heisuke shook her head, dropping it to make her long pink hair curtain her annoyed expression.
"Why would a lookalike challenge you to a race?" Makoto questioned, his eyes on Heisuke's long fingers as they slipped gently into Haruka's hair, stroking them subconsciously.
"A ghost, then," Haruka announced as he turned over to his side to look away from them as he felt his cheeks warm slightly. He was sure that it was the sun and not Heisuke's touch that was doing this to him.
"He wasn't floating," Nagisa said as Heisuke removed her fingers from Haruka's hair and fell back on the ground with a loud sigh, making her wavy hair sprawl around her like a halo.
"Doppelganger," Haruka proposed as he turned around and moved his head around to look at Heisuke, whose face was one foot away from his own. He blinked, swallowing slightly at how close she was.
"Oh, that takes me back!" Makoto exclaimed and Haruka watched as Heisuke's turquoise move from his and to Makoto. "We used to do that at the Swimming Club! Super Fusion: Doppel –!"
"Keep it down, Makoto," Haruka scolded flatly as he found a smile trail onto Heisuke's lips. He had seen the reflection of Makoto's strange poses in her wide eyes.
"What's wrong with you guys?!" Makoto said loudly as he jumped onto his feet, looking at Nagisa, who was making strange motions and at Heisuke and Haruka, both of whom were sprawled on the ground.
"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention," Nagisa apologised in his cheeky sweet voice. Haruka pushed himself to sit up with his palms against the dewy grass and Heisuke closed her eyes to relax herself.
"Hey!" Makoto complained at the blond's actions. He turned to look at Haruka and Heisuke. "Don't you two remember it, Hei-Chan and Haru?"
"No," Haruka answered flatly while Heisuke cracked open her eyes and shook her head, a sly smile gracing her lips as she lied just to watch him freak out.
"What?!" Makoto freaked out just as Heisuke had expected. "Why not?!" Nagisa and Heisuke both laughed while Haruka glanced back at the pink-haired girl.
"Must be a generation gap!" Nagisa pitched in immediately. That caused Makoto's shoulders to slouch briefly before the gravity of the blond's words sunk in.
"I'm only one year older than you and Hei-Chan!" Makoto cried out, back to freaking out. Heisuke laughed, clapping her hands. "And Haru's the same age as me!"
