The sparkle on her soft rosy lips, the light eyeshadow that brought out the color of her gorgeous emerald green eyes, and the silver dredge of glitter on her cheekbones that matched her Aegean teal wings; took my breath away.

Though she wasn't even aware of her beauty.

In complete silence, we stood there, letting the loud music coming from the party linger in the background.

Trying my best to be discreet, my eyes traveled from her beautiful face to her little waist.

I could tell that she was shy by the way her hand moved up to her chest and held the butterfly necklace.

When my eyes met back with hers, I became mesmerized in split seconds.

Adalyn's Point of View

The way he looked at me made me extremely nervous.

Not in an uncomfortable way though.

He made me feel beautiful and maybe...adored?

His eyes left my gaze then slowly started making their way to my waist.

What I didn't even capture was that my eyes began scanning him too.

The way his costume fitted him was enough to make any girl melt.

His broad, athletic frame easily demanded my attention. Even with his tactical vest, you could see his muscular form. The way that his arms were crossed in the process made me recognize how fit he is.

"You look beautiful," he flattered, a shy smile forming on his face.

"Thank you. You look good too."

"I see you're wearing the necklace," he observed. "It matches your costume."

"It makes me feel safe." My hands reached for the necklace again. "I see you're still wearing the bracelet."

"It's my lucky charm after all."

My face was probably red from all the blushing.

"I thought you weren't coming," I mentioned timidly

"I wasn't..." He was pensive. "Do you mind if we go somewhere a little more private? There's something I need to talk to you about."

"Sure."

Mason gently took my hand into his and led the way.

We ended up leaving the abandoned building and went to the outer woods, close to where Ariana had parked her car earlier.

Just as we were approaching this old wooden bench, there was a noise coming from the bushes.

My initial impression was that it was a wild animal, but as we got closer, it sounded like a person in pain.

"Stay behind me!" he instructed me.

"No way," I refused. "We're doing this together."

With that said, Mason stood in front of me anyway, as if I was the only one who needed some sort of protection from whatever was in there.

He didn't think about himself.

Clenching my hands to his shirt, he cautiously approached the bush.

"What the h*ll man?!" Mason rebuked.
