I kept my gaze on the oven door, staring at the lasagne casserole through the glass. I still had two dishes to prepare, and the dessert would take a while to prepare too. The time was ticking, and I shouldn't have wasted it by staring into space. But I was getting more nervous, overthinking about things that I considered as important, especially if they were for Lisa. I even had troubles in preparing the meat for the main course earlier because I forgot to buy a few crucial ingredients beforehand.
As I was drowning into my own thoughts, the scream of my phone saved and pulled me back up.
"Hello? Lisa?" I answered the call as soon as I saw the name that appeared on my phone screen.
"Chae?"
"Lisa?"
"Chae? Hello?"
Frowning, I pulled the phone away to check on the reception bar, and it was full. There was no way the service in Central London was bad. So I placed the phone against my ear again, walking out from the kitchen area and heading towards the balcony.
"Hello?"
"Chae?"
"Lisa, can you hear me?"
"Yes, clearly."
"What?!" I chuckled in confusion. "I thought you couldn't!"
"I just love it when you call my name" She giggled. "Did I upset you?"
"No, Lisa..." I grasped my forehead, giving it a light massage since I couldn't stop smiling now. "That's alright. By the way, did you get everything?"
"Yes. Butter, thyme and rosemary."
I was silent for seconds, looking at the night view of London in front of me.
"I'm sorry I troubled you, Lisa."
"It's nothing, Chae. I'm sorry that my kitchen is empty" She said softly, caressing my heart with her beautiful voice.
"Could you please come back fast?"
And it took no second for Lisa to sound panic.
"Is everything alright there, Chae?!"
"Yes! Yes, of course!" It was my turn to laugh at her. "I just don't feel right to be alone in your apartment."
"Chae..." Lisa sighed. "There's no ghost in my place."
At this point, I just knew that she was teasing me, probably didn't want me to take this matter seriously. But I had good reasons to feel uncomfortable. This was the first time I went to her house, considering the Lisa in my original universe had a different place. So this apartment was completely new to me, I didn't even know the layout of it yet. And the fact that Lisa trusted me with her house easily, putting how good she was as a police officer into attention, made me think that she shouldn't have.
"It's not a ghost that I'm worried about."
"Do you miss me already then?"
I smiled even wider, wondering how she made me feel better by a simple question like that.
"Kind of"
"Don't worry, I'll be there in 5. Could you please open the door for me later?"
"Alright, 5 minutes. Got it"
"Seconds..."
"What?!"
