Friday night was the most anticipated night to me, being wished and hoped for every week since that was when I would be at the peak of my happiness— promised with Lisa's laughter and smile, showered with her caresses and kisses, and treasured with her embrace that made my sleep brief, yet so fulfilling. It was when time felt so much faster, but everything around it lasted forever in my memories.
It was the night I would cook her dinner and enjoy the food together, sort of. Because most of the time she would stare at me instead of her plate, and it reminded me of her defence that watching me eating calm her hectic mind, just like those videos on the internet that I never understood their purpose.
It was the time I would look in the mirror after a quick shower while Lisa waited for me in front of the TV to proceed with our Netflix date. And I would blow-dry my hair before spraying mists of perfume around my neck, where my woman loved to smell it from.
It was the point where I would walk up to her and sit on her lap, pretending not to know that I had blocked her view of the news channel she was watching.
"Excuse me, miss? Hello?"
It was the minute I would chuckle when I heard that, ignoring Lisa's fake annoyance in her tone as I grabbed her hands and wrapped them around my waist. It was the second I would crash my back against her chest and hear a groan that was mixed with small laughter coming out from her mouth.
"Chae, baby..."
And it was definitely the moment she would tighten her arms, snuggling into my skin and breathing my scent in, while her lips traced up from my nape like they were heading to the back of my hair.
"What took you so long, hmmm?"
"Was it even long?"
"It was, honey. I missed you."
"Did you really?"
"I certainly did...and always will."
It was the moment my smile would never leave my face, having her random kisses all over and tickles in between parts of the movie that for her were not important to give attention to.
It was the moment we would talk on bed, waiting for the sleepiness to kick in. Because in those empty spaces of time, my Lisa would have serious thoughts in her mind especially about God and what I believed in about the after life, which I really enjoyed answering them.
But this Friday night wasn't going to be the same. Lisa wasn't even home yet but I already could sense the agony she might bring with her later when she walked through the door. That was because the TV that I was watching while preparing the dinner, caught my heart as hard as the person that was on it.
"Detective Isaac!"
The scream, the begging, and the pushing that were pressed on her as she stepped out from the police car, placed a deep frown on her forehead. She looked so uncomfortable, repeating the sentence "Excuse me, sorry" as she struggled towards a house that was once a home for a family, but now not only more than just a crime scene.
"Detectives, statements!"
But among the media chaos that Lisa had to handle, another man's voice sent relief not only to her, but to me as well, when it revealed itself as someone we both trusted.
"Please make way for us, boys!"
Lisa's best friend, who was also her favourite detective that she would always pick to pair with in a case, came behind her to assist.
"No statement as for now, we just arrived. Please let us do our work first"
He continued to calm the crowd, while Lisa didn't even try to since she looked so focused and determined to reach the police tape area. And when she finally did, she ducked slightly while her hand was pushing the yellow barrier upwards and keeping it that way until Detective Baxter came into the same side she was at.
