Calum sat at the corner of the small room and moaned. He officially hated himself. He had always seen girls go into the room, and he had figured it probably wasn't a great experience, but sitting there himself really nailed it into his head.
What he had done to those girls was disgusting, and he finally understood that.
He was hungry, he was thirsty, he was tired, his ankle hurt from the shackle that had been there for weeks, but he gave little thought to those things. The one thing that seemed to run through his mind more than anything else was the night that he had last seen Laurie.
He remembered everything vividly - every detail of Laurie's body, every word she had whispered to him, the sensation of every touch, all of these things came to life in his mind and replayed themselves like a movie in the highest possible quality.
He remembered the smaller things too, like how timid she was afterwards, and how she had insisted he stay and cuddle with her. But he didn't, and he really wished he would have.
Soon after Laurie and Calum began to wind things down, the two lovingly said their goodbyes and Calum crept out. He felt on top of the world, and in that moment he swore to himself that nothing could possiby keep him down. The thought of Laurie alone nearly drove him to insanity, but what had happened between them that night pushed him over the edge, and he couldn't have been crazier about her.
As soon as her door had closed though, things took a dark turn.
His eyes met Luke's and he saw a furious flame arise in them that he had never seen before in his friend. Calum, having just been caught breaking one of Luke's most enforced rules - "don't get attached to captives" - was having a hard time materializing the situation, and Luke gave him very little time to do so.
Before he could even open his mouth to say something, Luke had taken him by the arm and was dragging him down the stairs. Calum could have easily overpowered his friend, but he was almost paralyzed by fear and the inititial shock of being caught in the act.
Everything happened so quickly to Calum. One moment he was in Laurie's room sharing what to him represented the most intimate aspect of a relationship, and the next he was being taken by the arm to the captive room.
When Luke let go of him and opened the door to the room, Calum forced himself back to his senses.
"Luke, what are you doing?" He asked, fully aware of what Luke was doing, but disbelieving that he would do such a thing to someone he claimed was his best friend.
Luke didn't respond. Calum turned around and was about to bolt for the exit when the tall boy finally spoke up.
"It's you or her." He said, his voice devoid of the rage that was evident in his eyes.
Calum was stopped in his tracks by the statement, and he turned around swiftly. He understood what Luke was saying, but he didn't understand why he and Laurie couldn't just see each other. He tried reasoning with his friend, and he was almost positive that he could make him understand.
"Luke-"
"It's you or her." He repeated nastily, and held the door open.
Calum swallowed the hard lump that had made its way to his throat. Luke was being serious. So serious that it almost scared him, and the two just stood there, locked in eye contact.
Calum felt an intense sense of betrayal surge through his veins at the thought of his friend locking him away from his lover, but the sense of guilt he felt for bringing Laurie into the situation to begin with easily overwrote the feeling.
