"(Y/N), are you awake?" A familiar voice calls out to you as the door to the hospital room swings open.
You sit up in bed, and rub your eyes, finding Kurapika hovering over you with a relieved look on his face.
"I apologize for waking you," He starts, taking your hand in his, "I was just worried about you." He sits down in the recliner next to your bed, dark circles under his eyes.
You look around the room, not finding Izunavi to be present. They must have swapped out, so he could sleep. You give Kurapika a curious look when you find him staring off into space with a distant look in his eyes.
"Kurapika, are you okay?" You wonder towards him, "Something seems off about you."
He hesitates for a moment, before letting out a long sigh. His gaze falls on you, and he offers you a small smile, "Yes, I'm fine, (Y/N)." You're unsettled by this and continue to give him a questioning look, causing him to easily give in, "I had a nightmare concerning you, and I was worried. I rushed over here as soon as I woke up." He looks away again, "My apologies, (Y/N). I did not mean to worry you."
You reach out to gently caress his cheek, prompting him to look at you again, "You shouldn't apologize. You can't help that you had a nightmare."
"Yes, well.. You're right about that," He lets out another sigh, "However, I acted rashly by rushing here, and had Izunavi swap out early."
"I'm sure he doesn't mind," You watch his face, closely, trying to read his expression, "More importantly, are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?"
He thinks for a moment, before subtly nodding, "I think.. I would like that. Thank you, (Y/N)."
"Come and sit," You move over, and pat the spot next to you, gesturing for him to come over.
He slowly stands up, and sits beside you on the bed. He's silent for a few moments, before he finally speaks, looking away from you. "I dreamt that I lost you." He takes a deep breath before continuing, "The bullet had killed you, and the nen exorcist could not save you." His expression hardens and he grits his teeth, "I was holding your lifeless body, and there was nothing that I could say or do, besides hold you."
While he's talking you subconsciously begin to run your hands through his hair, soothingly.
"I was so relieved when I woke up," He finally turns to face you, "I just had to see you for myself."
"I'm sorry, Kurapika," You say in a gentle tone, "That sounds like an awful nightmare."
He nods to this, but his muscles seem to loosen up, as he leans onto you, "Thank you for allowing me to stay with you like this."
You gently hold him, continuously running your hands through his hair. His head is laid against your chest, your steady heartbeat calming him down immensely.
"You have no reason to thank me. I should be thanking you for all of the help you've given me," You explain to him in a hushed tone, "I'm forever grateful."
"I would do anything for you, (Y/N)," Kurapika replies, accompanied by a yawn, "And I know that you would do the same for me. You are very important to me."
You can't help yourself from smiling at this, "I feel the same, Kurapika."
Moments later, he's lightly snoring, as you continue petting his head.
The light coming through the blinds of the window hits your eyelids, and leads to your awakening. You sit up and rub your eyes, letting out a small yawn.
