Oh tony 2...

He tried to ignore it, ignorance was the only thing that stopped him from freaking out. But the thing about ignorance is that it only works if it doesn't directly affect you. In Tony's case it very much affected him, every time he'd try to sit further up he had to call for help. Every time he needed the bathroom he was wheeled to it. He couldn't be alone, if he needed something he couldn't be alone.

The door opened slowly and in stepped Rhodes,
"Hey tones" he said gently moving to the char next to the bed.

"Hey honey bear" Tony tried to sound like his usual hyper self but he couldn't, he couldn't gather the energy to do more than mumble.

"Oh Tony, I don't know what to say. I'm here for you for whatever you need, you need anything I'll get it, you need time alone I'll arrange it. Just please don't think your alone in this" That was the strange thing about all this, despite barley being left alone, he felt more alone than he ever had. Sure there were people all around him but none of them understood, except the man in front of him.

"Thank you" he said a little stronger, putting as much feeling as he could into it. He really was thankful to have a friend like Rhodes.

"Anyway look on the bright side, you already have the schematics for the leg braces." Rhodes smiled at him.

"I guess you're right, we'll be twins Rhodes"

"Yes we will" Rhodey smiled softly at the genius before leaving the room.

Tony was alone again, he was being discharged later that day and couldn't wait to get back. He didn't know though, how he would manage to live without the ability to leave for his lab by himself. That was his private place, where they couldn't go and he could just think.

It wasn't so private anymore...

Steve had offered to bring him down so he could try working on the leg braces, 'if you're ready for that' he'd said it like Tony was a kicker puppy. Which to be honest he did feel like that but he didn't want them walking on eggshells around him. It made him feel more fragile than he already felt.

Tony accepted the offer, the sooner he could walk the sooner he could get away from everyone.

The lab was how he left it, there were tools strewn all around and a box of scrap metals was on the floor. No doubt from DUMME messing around.

It took him four days to complete the braces, he hadn't left the lab since. Sleeping with his head on the table. He was finally able to slip them on, they were a dark black color, he thought about making them red and gold but he didn't want to draw attention to them. This way he could hide them in public or during interviews and press conferences.

He pulled himself up and took one step forwards, so far they worked perfectly. The only issue was that he couldn't fee his legs, it kind of disoriented him. He stumbled a few times before finding his rhythm and making the trek up to the common room.

He thanked his past self for installing elevator seating, and sat on one of them. The elevator dinged and he stood, the doors opened to reveal his team sitting on the couches. He couldn't see the TV from where he was but he could guarantee that they were watching a movie of sorts. Probably horror from the way Clint sunk back and flinched.

"Hey tones" he turned and heard the familiar voice of Stephen.

"Hey" he smiled and walked out into the hallway, just out of views. He wrapped his arms around his neck and pressed his forehead against his chest.

"I like the braces, and I'm so happy you can walk again" he smiled and pressed a kiss to Tony's head.

"Me too" smiled Tony for the first time since it happened.

"Shall we" asked Stephen.

"Sure" answered Tony, they headed into the living room and took seats one one of the empty two seater couches.

"Oh my gods Tony you can walk" Clint exclaimed.

"Yeah, it took a while but I've got the braces fitted"

"I'm so happy"

"Me too"

"Tony I'm so unbelievably sorry"

"It's not your fault cap, in the one who got up"

"I know but I'm still sorry" he smiled sheepishly.

"Thank you" Tony smiled back, "Now Stephen want to help me take these off, they're a little uncomfortable to sit in"

"Yep" Stephen stood and helped unbuckle each part and slipped them off, standing them against the coffee table.

"That's better, what movie are we watching"

"It 2" answered Natasha.

"I love that one" Tony smiled and allowed himself to be moved to lean against Stephens chest.

"How are you so happy? Sorry if that sounds bad but you were paralyzed less than a week ago" Clint suddenly asked.

"I spent a lot of the four days in the lab just thinking and coming to terms with something I can't fix" Tony explained, feeling warm hands massage his shoulders.

"Makes sense, do we have to keep watching this movie it's scary" Clint complained.

"Yes, Clint you're an agent and you fight multiple people every week yet you're afraid of a clown?" Natasha jabbed.

"Hey a clown is a different type of scary" he defended.

Tony slipped asleep to the sounds of the movie and their hushed conversation. Maybe this wouldn't be the end of everything. Rhodey lives with it, so maybe he can too.
