NOTE: This is another soulmate AU. You're colourblind until you meet your soulmate. Some people have secondary soulmates. Feelz ensued while I was writing this, so just be prepared if you get the feelz. Enjoy.
WARNING!! Small mention of attempts. No actual words, but it is implied.
Gil stared out at the world. It looked amazing, but yet just like everything else. He only saw black and white. Not that he minded, there was some comfort in being able to see those colours. But he also wished he could find his soulmate and see colour. Gil felt stupid. He felt unworthy.
Everyone around him had found their soulmate. Some were surprising, but others weren't. Uma had Harry, Mal had Ben, Evie had Doug, Jay had Lonnie and Carlos had Jane. He wanted to cry.
He had no one to confide in. The other couples were blissfully unaware of his situation. They thought he was fine, but he wasn't. They all thought he wasn't affected just because he didn't appear to be upset. That hurt him more than anything else.
Gil wanted to disappear. He wanted to vanish. Get himself out of the story. He didn't want to be around any more. He couldn't take it, his heart was heavy and beating felt like a struggle. He wanted to give up, but he didn't.
He'd promised his father that no matter what he wouldn't give up. Gaston had given up after Belle wasn't his and he'd fallen deep into a state of depression. The last thing he did before he died was give Gil a single flower. It was a rose. The flower was fake meaning it would never die.
Gaston had promised Gil that he would only stop being proud of his son when the rose died. The rose would never die and that brought comfort to Gil. He knew his father cared. Even if no one else believed in Gil, his father would be proud and would believe.
What an interesting word that is. The word 'believe'. It has the word 'lie' in the middle of it. beLIEve. See?
Gil thought to himself and chuckled. Believe was a weird word. He looked down at the fake rose hanging from his neck. He never went anywhere without it. He'd attached it to a metal chain that was way to big for everyone else. He attached the rose to the end so it was never without him.
Not that it mattered particularly to Gil. If someone wanted to be with him they could be with him. Gil was just waiting for the moment when he was safe enough to give up. He knew when that time would be.
Tonight. The middle of the night. He'd be gone by morning. Gil roomed alone and knew how he could and would do it.
That night he started his plan. The chain pulled against him, but he gave no struggle. He let it happen. He was too late in starting it however. He was only unconscious when the others came into his room to surprise him for his birthday.
They quickly loosened him until he was on the floor. The necklace still around his throat. Someone went forwards to cut if off, but Harry stopped them. Harry was the only one who knew how much it meant to Gil.
Something happened to Carlos in that moment. The glorious colours disappeared. He looked at everyone wondering what had happened. The others looked over at him when he gasped. Harry suddenly understood what was going on.
Harry's father knew almost everything about soulmates and had passed the knowledge onto his son. Harry called Carlos over and pointed to Gil. Carlos' eyes followed Harry's finger.
He gasped again. The colours had come back when he looked at Gil. Harry smirked knowingly at him and began to leave the room. The others followed him, hoping for an explanation. They would get one.
Carlos stayed with Gil. It was just the two of them. Gil stirred slightly and shot up. Carlos was there in an instant for his soulmate. Gil looked down at the arms covering his stomach. He turned around as the person continued to hold him. He looked down. His eyes met Carlos' and colour bloomed everywhere.
The boys looked at each other. Gil leaned down while Carlos stood on his tiptoes. Their lips met and their hearts sang. There were no words that night as the two boys felt comfort in each others arms.
