Okay, wow. We were officially in Hawaii. First thing I did was brush my teeth and head out to the beach. At the moment I hadn't realized it was six in the morning. The sunrise was unreal. It was like something out of a dream. I couldn't do much except walk on the beach. My body was aching and I didn't want to go swimming for the fear of me getting tired and drowning.

After about an hour, I go back to the room. I hated the way the sand was stuck to my feet. I took off my flip flops and rubbed my feet on the resort carpet. But I still hated the sand being stuck to the side of my foot. As soon as I enter I headed straight for the bathroom to wash my feet.

"Beckett? Are you okay?" My mom rushed to the restroom.

"Yeah, just washing my feet. Sand."

"Okay. Let me know if you need anything." She shouted through the door. I open the door and we both walk to the kitchen.

"Hey mom?"

"Yes?"

"Is it cool if Evangeline and I go looking around?" My confidence failed me. I knew someone was going to have to chaperone in case something happens to Evangeline.

"Yes, as long as her parents are okay with it."

"You don't think her parents will chaperone, right?"

"Most likely. She's very sick, you know? I think they just want to be careful."

"You know what, how about we all go? Look around a take pictures? Like tourists in movies." I smile.

"Really? You don't want lover time with your gal pal?" She chuckles.

"Don't ever day that again." I scoffed.

I knock on Evangeline's room door and asked if they wanted to go looking around. She said yes. It only took about two hours before everyone was ready, but we eventually left. My sarcasm is through the roof. Let me enjoy my moment.

"Well Beckett we're in Hawaii. Thanks to me." Smiled Evangeline.

"I bet it'll be a great trip? Swimming every morning? All you can eat buffet? Dancing? FIREWORKS?" I got excited. Evangeline smiled very widely and gave me a side hug.

"I have a question. Do you think your mum will want to join my parents for dinner tonight? My fathers treat." She asked as she realized from the hug.

"I don't see why not? What about Aspen and Harper?" I look up.

"Right! I forgot to mention I already volunteered us to sit for my parents." She said optimistically.

I stopped in my tracks. She kept walking but she eventually turned around and gave me a weird look.

"Beckett? Are you okay?" She asked.

I walk ahead of her and jog towards a guy. Evangeline follows me but stayed silent. She was only breathing heavily. I tap the guy on the shoulder and I had already known. It was my brother, Garret. He was with a girl and a little boy. His smile faded once he saw me. I could see Evangeline looking at both of us.

"Garret?" My mom said softly. But he just looked at her. I turned to look at her. Her eyes watered up and she walked away. I turn back to Garret, look at him, nod my head no softly and walk away. Evangeline stayed behind but eventually followed. I wasn't expecting to see my oldest brother here. We thought he was doing another term. But instead he was here, with a woman and a child. Most likely his own family. I was angry. I hadn't heard or seen my brother since I was fourteen. He left our family thinking we had done something wrong. That's not right. It's a real messed up thing to do. After my mom and I saw him, we didn't want to leave the hotel room. We didn't speak. We stayed in there for three more days until Evangeline tried to convince us to get out.

"Maybe the beach? It's a really gloomy day." She said softly.

"I don't know Evie."

"Alright well I'll be by myself if you want to join." She walked out.

"You should join her." Said my mom.

"What?"

"You're in Hawaii. With your best friend. Go." She smiled softly.

"What about you?" I asked.

"Maybe the Iverson's want to go to dinner." She smiled widely.

"Alright." I changed my clothes into beach shorts and headed out. I even put on my brown fisher hat in case it rained.

It was already sprinkling outside but I could see Evangeline in the distance. Everyone was rushing inside but Evangeline just stood there. She was the only one at the beach. The water would run up the shore but never touch her feet. The sprinkling turned into heavier drops of rain. But she still stood there. She was wearing a short light pink Satin dress. She wore the same long brown wavy hair she has been wearing. The rain became heavier. She looked up and started moving in a ballerina dancing motion. She was dancing in the rain. She never saw me. She spun in circles and moved her arms freely. Her hair stuck to her skin and flipped with every circular turn. She eventually stopped spinning and stood still once again. She looked out towards the ocean and fell on her knees. She placed her hand on her head and removed her wig. She wiped her eyes and sat on her calves in the sand. I slowly walk towards her and sit down. We look at each other. She had dark under eye bags and her face was red. Her cheeks were sunken in. You could see her chest cavity and the ribs that surrounded it. She was dying and I wasn't prepared for it.

I helped her up and we both walked to the hotel. She put her wig back on right before we entered. I gave her my fisher hat because she kept trying to fix it to make it look like it had before she took it off. I put my arm around her. I walked her to her room and kissed her cheek. I told her goodnight and she walked into her room. I spent three days depressed over my brother who didn't deserve my attention instead of spending those days with Evangeline. We didn't have much time left so I knew I had to make it up to her.

For the remaining days, Evangeline and I spent all of our time together. We ran into my brother but Evangeline whispered and told me to act like we hadn't seen him. He definitely noticed us. Evangeline learned how to surf meanwhile I fell each time. We went dancing and watched the fireworks show. On our last day there, it was cold, I mean why wouldn't it be? It was November. Evangeline thought it'd be great if we all went hiking. She knew we'd probably pass out from how exhausted we were but it was something on her bucket list. So I agreed.

Evangeline wore her maroon beanie and I wore a teal one. It was hers actually because I only owed a black one. She wore her hair wavy and a black jacket and dark clothing. So did I but I brought a backpack with waters inside along with me. We were at the top of our hike and Evangeline looked to her right and sat on rock covered by a blanket that had been left there. I sat next to her and we just watched the waves crash onto the shore.

I wouldn't change my experiences for anything. I loved Evangeline more than a friend and as a friend. She brought me happiness faster than anything. She made this whole cancer thing easier. For that, I would never trade my position with anyone.
