About a week had passed since the dance and it was time we performed for Guitar Class.
Gerard and I had only gotten closer that past week. And it made it easier in some ways. I paid less attention to Taylor and more attention to Gerard.
I pulled out Ariel and practiced the fingering part for Demolition Lovers. Gerard wanted our group to go last. I started warming up my voice for singing an upper harmony part.
Taylor walked over to me "Hey scumbag, ready to hear real music?"
I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore her, but sometimes that's easier said than done.
Gerard, Ray, and Frank all had their guitars out and were practicing the little chords and percussion bits. Gerard was warming up hits voice. His voice was so amazing. It was unique and special. It was unlike any other voice.
The teacher calmed us down and got the first group to come to the front of the class. It was Taylor and two jocks that I didn't particularly like.
"So this is a song I wrote and it's about not being able to get a boyfriend because I don't wear all those fancy clothes and a ton of makeup. It's called 'You Belong With Me'"
How ironic that she's wearing a ton of fancy clothes, has a boyfriend, and she wears a ton of makeup right now.
She and her annoying friends begin to play chords that take no talent at all.
You're on the phone with your girlfriend-she's upset,
She's going off about something that you said
'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do.
I'm in the room, it's a typical Tuesday night.
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like.
And she'll never know your story like I do.
But she wears short skirts
I wear t-shirts
She's cheer captain
And I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find
That what you're looking for has been here the whole time.
If you could see
That I'm the one
Who understands you.
Been here all along.
So, why can't you see-
You belong with me,
You belong with me?
Walk in the streets with you in your worn out jeans
I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be.
Laughing on a park bench thinking to myself,
"Hey, isn't this easy?"
And you've got a smile
That can light up this whole town.
I haven't seen it in awhile
Since she brought you down.
You say you're fine-I know you better than that.
Hey, what you doing with a girl like that?
She wears high heels,
I wear sneakers.
