It was afternoon and Gerard had gone home.
The blanket of snow outside of my house was melting slowly. The February would soon warm up, a little at least, and the snow we had been receiving would turn into a gentle, cold rain.
I knew what I had to do. I couldn't just sit and stare at the snow melting all day. I had an errand to run.
I needed a pregnancy test. My anxiety was building up and I felt like I could explode from the pressure.
I just couldn't be pregnant. I had to go to school, I had to live my life, not be weighed down by a baby. Not yet, at least.
If I'm pregnant, I will love the baby, despite who the father is.
If I'm pregnant, I will love the baby despite who is father is.
If I'm pregnant, I will love the baby despite who is father is.
If I'm pregnant, I will love the baby despite who is father is.
If I'm pregnant, I will love the baby despite who is father is.
I kept running that phrase through my head as I grabbed my car keys.
I raced up the stairs and into our living room/dining room.
Mom was sitting on the couch making out with some douche.
She pulled away as I entered the room.
"Oh Scarlett, we need to talk." she said with her words slurred together. She was clearly drunk.
I placed a hand on my hip and waited.
"This is Richard," she said referring to the man on the couch. "He's my new buddy. We needed some extra cash and this was an easy way to get it. I told him about you and he said he would pay extra if he could get his hands on you."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My mother was becoming a prostitute and she was pulling me into it.
Fuck her. Fuck him. Fuck prostitutes.
I don't have time for this. I just practically run out the door before they can get me.
I hopped into the car and sped away to the drugstore.
As I pulled in to the parking lot, I could just feel the anxiety. I was suffocating in it and choking my way.
I got out of the car and headed inside.
I wanted to hurry in case anybody I knew saw me.
I finally found the pregnancy tests and grabbed five just to be sure of the results.
I then hurried my way to the checkout. A mother was in line with her children. She gave me the dirtiest look then turned her kid's heads to look away from me. I hadn't done anything wrong. Had I?
I handed the tests to the cashier and he eyed me carefully. A look of reconciliation came to his face but he quickly hid it.
"Bad day?" he asked checking my tests through the scanner.
"It's a long story." I reply.
I then notice his eyes. I've seen them somewhere. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm sure I've seen those eyes before.
He nods his head as if he already knows my story then I pay him.
As I'm walking out the store, I hear the cashier laugh. It was evil and horrific. I finally knew where Is recognized those eyes from.
I walked out of the store twice as fast as I had walked in.

I pulled into the driveway and decided not to go in through the main entrance. I'd get stopped by my mom's new "buddy".
Instead, I jumped down into the pit around my window. It was unlocked and it slid open easily.
I hopped in then headed straight for the bathroom.
I soon had the tests ready and on the counter waiting.
The first test came up

The only problem was: Gerard.
