iv. Psychology Class✴️

Sophia was the most popular girl of her school. Except she wasn't a Queen Bee. She was sweet, smart, down to earth, and lovable. Everybody knew her name, everybody knew who she was. All the girls wanted to be her best friend, all the boys wanted to be her boyfriend. Each year, every senior had to do a psychology project with a partners. Each year, the seniors got to choose their topic and their partners.

Except for when Sophia was a senior.

Sophia gets paired with a nerd, a bad boy, and a jock.

And their subject is depression.

Sophia knows a lot more about the subject than she should. And when secrets are revealed, the group dynamics change.

One group member tries to study Sophia like a science experiment.

One group member tiptoes around Sophia like any wrong move could break her.

One group member doesn't change, however, because he knows a lot more about depression than he lets on as well.

Throughout the year long project, Sophia tries to ignore her group's sudden change. Until the project suddenly changes and she is forced to get much closer to a member of the group than she would have liked.

And then there is another twist in the group project in which each group has to study another member of the group. And when this causes even more secrets to come out, the question changes from 'what is depression' to 'what does depression do to someone'.

••••••••••••••

This is a very important topic to me because I actually am clinically depressed. The issue is, people either try to ignore the issue, they tiptoe around me, or they stop being my friend because they don't want to upset me and they think that it's the best way.

I don't want to be treated differently, I don't want to become this sore subject where nobody can actually speak their mind. But it happens because most people are ignorant and it bothers me a lot. So if you take this idea, please do research. Please. Because otherwise, you will and up bothering a lot of people. And if one of your friends has a mental illness, be like you normally would, but acknowledge their illness. Because its real.

Thanks.

Kristine.
