"I don't want to see him." You quickly said. Your mother sighed as she released some tension. "Y/N," she glanced at Derek and Roxie before continuing on.
"Your dad really wants to see you. Just go see what he wants."
"Mom-"
"Y/N?" You heard the familiar voice of your father as he peeked through the now opened door. When no one said anything, he took the chance to walk in. The first thing you noticed is how different he looked since the last time you've seen him. He had now visible grey hairs on his head, gained a few pounds, and had a beard.
When two other smaller figures appeared behind him, you gulped. He brought his family.
"Y/N. You've grown into a beautiful adult." Your dad said as a smile appeared on his face. You avoided eye contact with him, but your eyes landed on his wife and her kid.
The little girl was smiling shyly at you as she hid part of herself behind her mother. Her mother was also giving you a sympathetic smile."I miss you." He admitted to you. You frowned. You missed him too, but you couldn't bring yourself to announce that. All the pain that he caused to your family made it hard for you to forgive him.
You only nodded. The room became silent again. Derek and Roxie looked awkward and uncomfortable standing beside your mom.
"Well, um, Merry Christmas." He said as he handed you a folded up envelope. You stared at his now reached out hand and the envelope. You knew what it was, and you didn't want it.
"Christmas was a week ago. I don't want your money. It's gonna take a lot more than bribing me to talk to you."
And with that note, you stormed upstairs to your room, ignoring the callings of your name.
--
It was nearly 2am when you quietly walked outside and sat down on your porch. You couldn't sleep. Thoughts from earlier raced through your mind every time you would close your eyes. After your dad and his family left, taking back the money with him, everyone in the house left you alone.
It started to pour down as you sipped your cup of hot coco. In the darkness, you could make out a figure coming towards you. Frightened, you quickly got up from your seat and started to head inside, away from whatever danger the person who cause.
“It’s me.” The familiar voice said as he came closer. He reached the porch and took off his hood. His blonde hair covered his eyes.
You let go of the door handle and sighed. “I’m sorry, why are you here?”
He chuckled as he took a seat on the porch, away from where the rain could hit him. “I always come over, if you haven’t noticed, doll.” He winked. You watched as he took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and started to smoke.
“Okay, one, don’t call me doll. Makes me sound like a Barbie doll and I swear I’m nowhere near that. Two, why are you here this time of night?”
“Why are you awake?” He shot back at you, dragging out smoke from his mouth.
“Can’t sleep.” You said as you started to rub your face. You watched as the rain started to slack down. The streetlights shone a light at the fallen drops that were coming down slowly. You made your way towards him and sat beside him.
“Who are you?” You asked him after a while of silence.
“Just a neighborhood friend, according to your mother.” He answered as he finished his cigarette. He threw it on the ground and crushed it with his black Converse shoes.
“Aren’t you a little too young for her?”
“Seriously,” he sighed as he turned to you. “It’s the 21st century. It doesn’t matter.”
“So jail doesn’t matter?”
“Look doll, I’m older than you think I am.”“Yeah? How old are you then?” You grumbled. He was giving you a hard time. You almost got up and went back in the house after he didn’t answer for a while, but when he did, your heart almost stopped.
“I’m twenty-two. So, it wouldn’t be illegal if your mother and I dated.”
“Y-You look much younger…” You trailed off, embarrassed. He opened his mouth to say something but there was a noise from inside of your house that made you both jump. You both looked back and saw a light from inside illuminate through the windows.
“I bet that’s your boyfriend looking for you.” He said as he jumped up and put on his hood.
“What? I don’t have-” His intimidating glare cut you off. “Your mother told me.”Confused, you wondered why his attitude changed. You wanted to ask him about it, but he already walked away quietly and quickly. It started to rain again and you saw him slip on his hood as he disappeared in the dark.
Behind you, the door opened, revealing a tired and dazed Derek. “There you are. You had me worried after I didn’t see you in your room.”
“I couldn’t sleep.” You explained to him. He grabbed your hand and pulled you inside. “Come with me.” He said as he pulled you up the stairs with him and into your brother’s room.

“I guess I’ll see you all for the next break.” Your mother said as she hugged all three of you before boarding the plane back to school. You nodded, “Mhm yeah. I’ll call you when we land.” The announcement of your plane interrupted your moment with your mom.
You both said one last ‘I love you’ before you followed Derek and Roxie towards the plane.
“Y/N!” Your mother called out. You turned around to see her holding a folded envelope. You were about to protest but she beat you to it. “Take it.”
You sighed and took it out of her hand, then boarded your plane.
