“What’s that?” Derek asked as you stuffed the envelope of money from your dad in the back of your clothes drawer. You didn’t like the idea of your dad only giving you money for Christmas. He could have thought of something more creative, like him asking for forgiveness with a brand new car for you, but instead he gave you money.
“Just a lousy excuse for a Christmas present from my father.” You said as you stuff your now clean clothes from the trip to your mom’s house back into your drawers where they belong. Derek helped you unpack and stuff all of your clothes and Christmas presents away. Roxie wasn’t your roommate, but stayed across the hallway from you. Unfortunately, she had to go to class when you all returned.
“Thanks for the help.” You nodded towards Derek as you both put away the last of the clothes. “You need any help unpacking?”
“I – actually, yeah.” He stuttered. You looked at him questionably. “How about you come over later and we could do that.” He recovered quickly. He pushed up his glasses as he waited for your answer. You knew what he was doing, trying to get you alone with him. The way he was smirking at you gave it away.
“Just ask me on a date.” You laughed. He sighed, releasing a long breath. “You wanna go on a date with me?”
“Sure.” You smiled at the nervous looking boy. His face illuminated with a bright smile as he hugged you tightly. You both laughed as you hugged each other. The warmth of his body made you feel warm inside your heart, which made you hold on tighter. It was a feeling you couldn’t describe, and it felt gratifying.
Your phone blaring the ringtone set as your mother’s calling interrupted the two of you. “It’s my mom.” Derek looked a bit disappointed but shook it off as he started glancing around at your pin board of pictures.
“Hi mom.” You answered the phone. There was a bunch of noise in the background as your mother began to talk to you over the line. “I think she’s the one.”
Confused, you looked back at your phone to make sure it was your mother calling. The person over the line didn’t sound like her; the person’s voice was slurred, and surely, was a man’s.
“Who is this?” You asked, which caught Derek’s attention. He walked over to you and pressed his ear against the other side of the phone so he could hear too. You waited for the person to answer back with so many questions whirling around in your mind. Was it sweet tooth bae? One of her new men? Or a stranger?
“It’s Justin...haha.” He laughed obnoxiously. You bit your lip, thinking about whom that could be. You know you’ve heard the name before; it’s pretty common. You took a glance at Derek and he was staring at you, just as confused as you were too. “I – um, is my mother Y/M/N there?”
“Oh haha, she’s still passed out.” He laughed again. “What? Is she okay?” You asked as you started to panic. It wasn’t even twenty-four hours since you’ve seen her and she’s already messing around.
“Yesss. She just needed to let loose. She was very tense.” Your eyes widen; you didn’t know if that was meant to be sexual or not, but it disgusted and offended you.
“Look, douche. You better not put a hand on my damn mother because I would come all the way over there and-” Before you knew it, the mystery person ended the call. “That son of a bitch!”
“It was probably that dude with the luscious blonde hair…” Derek thought out loud but you ignored it. You went to your closet and started roaming through the clothes.
“What are you doing?” Derek asked as he stared at you confused at your sudden change of behavior. You turned to him, “I’m getting ready for our date.”
“Oh,” Derek said, a smile forming on his face. “Well I’ll leave you alone now and see you later.” You bid him goodbye as you continued to wander in your closet, trying not to worry about your mother. You knew she was going to be okay, but you just needed something to distract yourself from worrying too much. Derek was the perfect distraction, and you were going to use it wisely.

“A night in is what I need.” You sighed happily as Derek told you the plan for the night. After you would help him finish unpacking, you two would order pizza and watch a Disney movie. Derek mentioned in theatre class in his personal monologue that he adored Disney movies, always have and always will.
Derek told you that his roommate was out with a couple of friends, so you two had the room to yourselves. Derek led you to his room, where everything was neat and clean, unlike his roommate’s room that was untidy and disorganized. On Derek’s bed were both of his suitcases. He unzipped one as you unzipped the other. “So we’re doing this again.” Derek joked.
You laughed. “Yeah, and this time my mother isn’t here to interrupt us.”
You both continued your random conversations while finishing unpacking his suitcases. Whenever you both were done, Derek called for the pizza while you picked out the movie and set it in the DVD player.
“Not Frozen, please no.” Derek pleaded as he walked back in the room, seeing you eyeing Frozen. “It’s not that bad.” You defended the movie. It wasn’t that bad, but the thing is - people overrated it. It’s a great movie, but it’s not the greatest Disney movie.
You shrugged and picked up another movie: The Lion King. Derek nodded in approval. After getting the pizza, you both sat on the couch and sat close together, watching the movie.
In the middle of the movie, you placed your hand on Derek’s thigh. Out the corner of your eye you could see him glance at you. Trying to pay attention to the movie, his eyes went back to the television. Taking the opportunity, you scooted closer to him and laid your head on his shoulder. One of your legs was draped over the lower part of his torso. Derek glanced your way again, then pulled you in his lap. You started blushing really hard, which made Derek unexpectedly kiss you on your cheek.
Smiling at him and ignoring the movie, you turned to him and kissed him on his soft, moist lips. Surprisingly, he kissed you back with the same force you brought onto him. His hands traveled down to your ass, squeezing it. You pushed your body closer to his as you deepened the kiss to a rougher passionate one. Feeling him smirk against your lips, you wrapped your arms around his neck as he pushed you both down on the couch.
What happened after that was history.
