Hanji's POV
"Erm- Charlie, I need your help here." I called out as I was examining something under my microscope. "Something's not right here... maybe talk to the professor? I'm not sure what I'm seeing here..."
Charlie nodded her head, walking out to talk to the professor when someone walked up to me. "Hanji Ackerman, right?"
I was startled and jumped when I heard that cold voice. I turned to see someone- he had blonde hair and blue eyes. He looked so familiar, but I couldn't have put it down. Where he was from- I had no idea. I was... clueless.
"You're married to Levi Ackerman, right?"
"Yes- what about it?"
"I just wanted to make sure I got the right Hanji."
"Well, name is very-"
"Enough." He growled softly, slamming his hand down on the table. "My brother- Erwin Smith- you remember, don't you? Remember what happened just a few years ago... regarding Erwin Smith. Remember his death?"
I nodded my head, turning pale white. If he was asking about Levi... and talking about Erwin... could it be...? "Yes, I do remember. But that was the past. His killer was never found-"
"I figured it out, Hanji. Those rumors and pieces- it was Levi Ackerman, wasn't it?"
My breath was taken away as I heard him accuse of Levi. "You're imagining things. Levi wouldn't dare do that-"
"What are you protecting? More specifically... who are you protecting?" I opened my mouth again to protest, but he continued on. "I've been watching- trying to see if Levi was really the killer... but... are you protecting Levi or are you protecting yourself and that unborn baby."
"How did you-"
"As I said- I've been watching. Who goes to the clinic daily and shops for pregnancy tests over and over- you have. It's no doubt you are pregnant. Pregnant with that... that monster's kid! Don't you want to get rid of him? Confess to me and I will get the police straight to him. Arrest him-"
I took a deep breath, looking at him- right into those blue eyes of his. "Levi is not a monster. Levi has never killed anyone in his life. I don't care if it seems so perfect in your little mind- there is no confession because my love for him is true. No confession because Levi has done nothing to hurt me or others. Understand that, whoever you are. Accuse someone else."
He began to walk away with a growl in his voice. "You've chosen badly, Hanji. My brother was so much more... respected than that guy. Now, he will pay. His family- I will make him see my pain."
* * *
What was saddening the most was that Levi didn't seem to care about his extended family. I told him of what had happened... and he was just... brushing it aside. He told me that I should've been by his side and thankful that I didn't betray him. When I told him of the baby we were going to expect... his protectiveness... it grew. He said that anything of mine would be his to protect. Which was nice...
But when the news of his niece's family being killed... it scared Levi to the bones. Shaking him because he knew that the man I had talked to had done this. Unfortunately, that man forgot the fact they had a daughter- and I convinced Levi to take her in. He disagreed, but eventually gave into the urge.
I wanted to clear myself from this surprise when I was met with warm blood. A pain to cause me to cry. I wasn't dying... but it hurt. The most painful pain I've ever felt was the fact that the night Mikasa lost her parents... I lost our baby.
"Hanji!" I could hear Levi's cry as I saw the attacker shrink back in fear. "Hanji!"
"How could you kill my own brother, Levi?!"
The cries were quickly ended... and Levi who killed without hesitation returned back to me. Those killer eyes within his silver eyes were something I would always be haunted with. The baby we were meant to have back then was gone. Mikasa was someone we could raise together- but that blood and that moment I lost my baby... it was a ghost in my soul. A pebble in my stomach. Empty.
