Chapter 20: Minor Slip-Up

Detective Patterson's POV

"More murders... and the only main guy that sticks out seems to have connections to all of them." I muttered under my breath as I drank my cappuccino. "Eren Jaeger... you seem to have alibis everywhere- yet you are the most culpable one..."

"Ranting on again?" Percy Meyers chuckled softly as he walked in with two other people behind them. Seeing those people- stunned me. One female with darker skin color, and the other was a male with a slightly lighter dark skin color. "Sherry Patterson, Agent Karl Lopaz and Agent Tia Ritchard. Agents- this is the Detective Riley Patterson."

We shook hands and greeted each other before Agent Ritchard spoke out. She was quick to the case and immediately wanted to get started. Moreover... she wanted this job to be quick and easy. In and out. Nothing more or no reason for her to stay here. On the other hand, her partner seemed to have been a little bit calmer.

"Detective Patterson- what do you have on this case within Shiganshina."

"Nothing much- other than multiple kills. 5 total kills- all students attending to Rose High School. Sasha Braus, Charles Maleki, Harold White, Duncan Xander, and Zach Pritchard. The last 4 kills were all killed within a few minutes. A spree."

Agent Lopaz nodded his head, examining a few key points and pictures as part of our investigation. "Last I heard, it was Detective Clifford here- promoted recently?"

"He stepped down because he didn't want to deal with another case. Practically left all the work to me. Then perhaps he would prove to everyone of how meaningless this case really feels. I want to prove him wrong. So I took up the case and called you all here."

"Any other news?" Agent Lopaz asked again as Agent Ritchard continued to stare and study at the pictures on the wall. "Such as... well- any other clues? Something?"

"Just Eren Jaeger- but according to alibis, he's clear."

"Who's alibis?" Agent Ritchard finally spoke after she studied the entire case within minutes. Her firm brown eyes were steady on me. "Who's alibis supported where he was?"

I sighed heavily, putting my hands on my hips with a heavy sigh. "During Braus' murder, it was his mom and his best friend. They were having dinner when Braus called the Jaegers and they were apparently playing chess when the murder happened."

"And what of the other 4?"

"He was with Mikasa Ackerman. According to Armin Arlert, the best friend of Eren Jaeger, he said that he was in love with Ackerman and wanted to go out with her. Turns out, he went over to the Ackerman household where he stayed for the night."

Agent Ritchard curiously looked at me as she snapped her fingers. "That's a bit odd, isn't it? If you're interested in a girl, you would take her out to a date first and drop her off at home. But he stayed over at the Ackerman's household for the night- you don't do that on a first date. Never on the first date. Something's fishy about that."

"So... we should focus on Eren Jaeger and the Ackermans. Perhaps he didn't do the first murder of Sasha Braus- but it might be tied in with the Ackermans. We'll first start with the Ackermans. You work on the Jaegers. See what tied them together- other than them being classmates at the same high school."

Agent Ritchard's POV

"Levi Kevin Ackerman... born December 25th... involved in another investigation regarding murders at high school. Hanji Suzi Zoe Ackerman... also involved with the investigation regarding murders at the same high school. No one found those killers- Ritchard, think this really could be so?" I hear Lopaz ask me with a chuckle.

My eyes rolled a bit as I listened to the ignorance of these officers. They had them right there- right there. "What didn't they find to convict Levi Ackerman?"

"Evidence. Nothing to prove he did kill them."

"Yet- he had something to do about it." I sighed once more, shaking my head. "How idiotic can they be? Now... I don't think we can truly convict him- unless this investigation had shook something for him. Maybe he started on his spree again? No- victimology doesn't work."

"What about their niece? Mikasa Kanzaki Ackerman? She was also involved with the murder of her parents when she was young. What's wrong with this family? Everything is all about death. No wonder you suspect them of those murders. They have been completely surrounded by murders- too much to call it a coincidence."

"What if..." I started aloud, pointing to Mikasa's photo. "What if we focused on her first? She was someone else connected to that Jaeger boy. Especially if they were going to date each other. Could she be the culprit?"

Lopaz shrugged his shoulders, not knowing what else to say. He opened his mouth occasionally- but closed it back up. Of course- some people weren't ready to say the answers to convict a high school student. 

"Let's assume she did it. Motives?"

"Nothing conclusive."

"So let's start investigating." I could feel this gleeful smile grow on my face when I thought of that idea. "If this killer is a high school student, let's make them sweat. Let's go over to Rose High School. Examine each and every classroom. Give them the talk. See how they react."

The same smile grew on Lopaz's face as we both came to that conclusion. "Let's have some fun with that, shall we?"
