Tacenda: things
Better left unsaid;
Matters to be passed
Over in silence.[◇]
"What about you? Are you really new in town or is there more?" Covan turned to me and asked, breaking the thick silence between us. I tore my eyes away from the beautiful sky. "What do you mean?" I asked, my breath hitching my I doubt he could notice that. He knew, didn't he? He knew who was my father.
Shit. This is bad.
"I don't know, like you had a bad past in another school and wanted a fresh start? You seem too innocent to be real," he explained. It had to be the alcohol talking or something.
"I'm not innocent," I scoffed at what he said. "Yeah, I see that now," he smirked," with the ex boyfriend problems and reckless crying," the thin line of his lips shifted into a classic smirk.
"He isn't my ex...I think," I sighed. Great, once again I was reminded of Hale. "So it's that complicated," he exaggerated and pulled the tip of the bottle to his lips.
I winced while watching him to that. He took the large gulp so easily that it nearly scared me. When he swallowed and his eyes were back to me, I realised everything that was happening.
The new girl was at the top of a roof with the popular boy who happened to be drunk.
Probably he was just doing this to lure answers out of me and I just answered some of them. Shit.
What if he tells everyone about our little interaction?
"Okay, this has been lovely but I should go. My parents would be worried," I pushed myself away from the edge and stood up. Covan's body tilted slightly to look at me. "You're leaving?" He frowned.
"Yes, my parents are very um...strict," I almost winced at my own words but it was the truth.
"Right," he mumbled, looking at the concrete floor. "Well, bye," he sighed his words before turning back to the dark trees and pretty stars. The part of me that cared for everyone, even a stranger wanted me to make sure he would get home safely, give him water instead of alcohol and make sure he would be okay but I fought myself while walking down the staircase.
As expected, my car was unharmed but what surprised me was the ten missed calls from my parents. Specifically, three from my mother and seven from my father. A loud sigh left my lips as I carefully drove out of the parking lot and onto the main roads to make my way home.
Then, I decided that I wouldn't talk to Hale until he made the next move. Space was something he seemed like he needed and for the sake of our relationship I was going to give it to him.
I pulled into the driveway and open the garage. My car fit perfectly next to the four others. After making sure the garage was locked I made my way inside. The house was dark and I already knew I missed dinner. No surprise there. When I entered the lounge, throwing my car keys on the table and slipping of my shoes, the lights were turned on.
I jumped at the sight of my father that was standing next to the light switch, previously hiding in the darkness. "Where have you been?"
"I went to get some food with a friend from school," I lied. His eyes narrowed at me and he definitely didn't seem satisfied with my answer. "Didn't think it was smart to message or something?" He snapped at me.
"And what about not answering our calls? We were worried!" He continued, almost shouting at me but loud enough for my chest to jump. "You guys were at work and I left my phone in the car, I'm sorry," I apologized, suddenly feeling tired. Even too tired for food.
He sighed loudly. "We'll deal with this tomorrow, go to your room," he ordered softer. He didn't have to tell me twice since I took the opportunity to go to my room.
