"He is hot though," Ellie winked at me as we walked through the cafeteria with our lunches. She couldn't shut up about how the new teacher was incredibly hot. I hadn't seen him yet so I couldn't give my opinions. From what I've gathered he was 25 and married but insanely hot that makes these teenagers want to be a homewrecker.

"He's married," I reminded her and she rolled her eyes. We were about to sit down on our usual small table for two when her eyes snapped to behind me. Curiosity got the better of me and I turned around to see Jessie waving her fingers over to us.

Oh no.

"Sit with us," Jessie suggested loudly for us to hear. The smirk on her face and the glare she was staring at me with told me she had plans and I wasn't about to fall into it. At the same time, I said," no thank you, we're fine," Ellie cheerfully said," sure."

Of course, she pulled me along the table and now Jessie was smirking. I sighed in defeat and flopped down next to Ellie, not that she gave me an option.

"How's it going, Rena?" Preston dragged my attention. He was proudly looking at me with his elbows on the table. I looked away from him and shrugged my shoulders. "She's fine, just shy," Ellie stated for me and I felt like strangling someone. "Yeah, for sure she is shy," Jessie cryptically agreed. She was up to something and I hated it.

"Leave her alone, Jess," Willow snapped. Jessie rolled her eyes and leaned back on her chair, finally leaving me alone. "So are you guys coming at the diner tomorrow after the game?" Preston changed the topic with his eyes on Ellie and I. The mention of their diner had my eyes on Covan who was chilled back on his chair, typing away on his phone next to Preston.

I guess he too was sparked at the subject and his eyes instantly met mine. We held our eyes for a very long second and before I knew it, Ellie was already agreeing.

Covan and I hadn't spoken or even looked at each other since he dropped me home. Now there was tension between us that I didn't want there to be. "I don't know if I could make it. I forgot where that place is," I lied. "Yeah right," Covan scoffed. Preston's eyes furrowed at his best friend.

"You know something I don't, Harington?" Preston challenged. I also noticed other groups on the table was taken up in their own conversations to listen in on ours and I was thankful for that.

"I'll take her, no worries," Ellie mentioned again and I wanted to bang my head on the table. She was too innocent for her own good. "But-" I was about to interrupt when she banged her leg against mine under the table and I shut up.

"Fine," I sighed, giving in. Preston cheered and the lunch carried along with Preston and Ellie. They had some things in common and hit it off pretty easily but I couldn't help but wonder how they would be in a relationship.

I didn't see it.

What was annoying and suspiciously weird, Jessie didn't speak to us for the rest of the hour. She stuck with her friends, only stopping to stare at Covan or something like that. Ellie and I decided to leave a couple of minutes earlier. When we were far away from them, I decided to break the silence.

"You're not dumb Ellie. I know you know that I didn't want to go with them tomorrow so why did you drag me along?" I asked as we walked out of the cafeteria. She smirked at me with her hair twirling around her finger. "They aren't saying nice things when you're not around so when they see how awesome you are maybe that would change," she shrugged her shoulders.

Of course, they are bad talking me behind my back. I became self-conscious and began to wonder what exactly they were saying about me. "Hey, don't worry about it. They live off gossiping. That's the type of girls they are. They gossip all day," Ellie told me, seeing that my mood had changed.

I threw the thought away and focused on her. "Yeah, I'm fine," I convincingly say. She showed me a look that told me she didn't quite believe me but left the topic alone. After saying our goodbyes until tomorrow, we went our separate ways to get ready for our next class.

Covan Harington

"Hey dad," I lazily walked into the kitchen. He was leaning against the counter with his phone in his hand and I wondered what he was doing at ten PM. "Hey son, I was supposed to ask you something," he immediately stated. Great, this meant having a conversation with him when all I wanted to do was go in my bed.

"What's up?" I asked.

"The new girl, Verena. Why don't you try to be friends with her? That would make them start talking about you again," my father said with a smile on his face. I wasn't surprised by this, he always wanted me to be the talk of the school even if it was negative or positive rumors. Once he knew I was the golden boy, he was satisfied.

"We're cool. She hates me though," I truthfully answered. I think I got to her nerves too many times and I ruined any possible friendships. "Make her unhate you. Leave Jessie and go with her," he shrugged casually like it wasn't a big deal at all.

If I tried to befriend Verena, we would end up in an even worse position. "Jessie would freak out and I don't want her to pressure Verena," I explained. "Why would she?" He asked. I wanted to facepalm since it was kind of obvious.

"She's the head cheerleader," I sighed. He was really pushing my limits when I didn't want to talk.

"Right. Well just make Verena the captain," he shrugged again. I facepalmed and shook my head.

"Verena and I cannot happen. You can't just demand that she is the captain," I sort of scolded him. "Yes I can, but fine, what if I tell you that you can break up with Jessie if you start some rumors with Verena," my father offered. "Dad, Verena wouldn't have an easy time with the rumors. She's new and innocent," I objected.

"She'll thank us for making her popular," he grinned.

"There are already people talking about how pretty she is and I'm pretty sure Preston likes her," I objected.

"You always complain about Jessie. You're getting an opportunity to drop her so why aren't you taking it?" He finally snapped at me. "Because Jessie doesn't deserve to be used like that. I appreciate her as her own person and she's crazy but she's...okay. we aren't right together and yes I want to break up with her because we aren't compatible but breaking up with her to try and get with another girl...it's wrong dad," I ranted.

"Fine. What about if you break up with her and just try to fix whatever you and Verena have. Maybe you can get a friendship out of her," he altered and for once it sounded like something I could do.

I was already planning on doing that though, dad.

"That doesn't sound so bad but I'm not going to try to make her fall for me," I warned him. He rolled his eyes and nodded his head. "Okay son, remain single and have fun. So do we have a deal?" He continued.

I smiled and drew my conclusion.

"Deal."
