"Are you sure you can drive to his house?" My father hesitated. He was more nervous for me to drive to Covan's house. "Yes, dad. I'll be fine," I assured him for the hundredth time. He sighed and finally gave him. I hugged both of my parents goodbye before leaving. My legs bounced every time they could've, I was very excited to see Covan. Even though he almost damaged my phone last night while trying to get pictures of us on the rooftop.
It's Monday evening, we both didn't have practice, requested by the coaches. My phone rang from the passenger seat and I just glance at it for a second, well I usually would. But when I saw Hale's name flashed on my phone, stared at it for a little longer. But I knew the road was clear, I thought it did at least. So when the black car collided with my car, I definitely didn't expect it.
Worse of all, the short glimpse I got before everything went black, I could've sworn I saw Hale behind the wheel of the other car.
Covan Harington
"I...I think you need to come to Oakwood Avenue," Preston spoke into the phone. I can't leave now, Verena is coming over for the first time today. "I'm a bit busy right now. She's coming over about now," I declined. He's supposed to know who's she. "No, she won't. Fuck, Covan," Preston groaned before I'm greeted with the dead line. Thirty minutes later the doorbell rang and I bolt down the staircase, ready to see her bright eyes, ready to kiss her soft lips.
I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation as to why she's late. I didn't want to rush her so I decided against calling her to see if anything was wrong. I threw open the door excitedly but that all vanished when I saw Preston staring back at me with worried eyes. "I....fuck man, I just dropped Verena off at the hospital," Preston blurted out as he ran his fingers through his hair. My face dropped of emotion. Hospital? "What?" Was all my managed to get out. What the fuck? Last time I messaged her she was just about to leave her house.
That was twenty minutes ago.
"I don't know man! I just found her bleeding against a fucking tree on Oakwood! I called you but you didn't answer. The doctors already called her parents before I left," he cautioned. I need her. What am I doing still standing here?
I wasted no time pushing him out the door and dragging him back to his red BMW. I didn't care about how I left my house unlocked or didn't tell my mother where I was going. I can tell her when I make sure she's okay. She has to be okay. Preston thankfully didn't be stubborn. He got in the car quickly and we made it on the road just as fast. "She's going to be alright," I repeated over and over to myself. Thankfully, Preston pressed on the pedal and send his car driving faster. "She better be. You still have to tell her you love her," Preston mumbled beside me as he gripped the steering wheel hard.
He's right.

My eyes opened and the constant sound of the beeping was all I could hear. It was irritating, loud, and annoying. I turn my head, feeling how sore my neck was. "Verena," my eyes snapped to the couch beside the surprisingly comfortable bed. "Covan," I returned. My voice sounded horrible and my throat felt weird. I tried sitting up but then the headache hit me hard and I slowly leaned back on the pillow. "Just relax, you're okay now, I promise," Covan assured me with a smile. He leans down and presses a soft kiss to my forehead.
"What happened?" I dared to ask. The last thing I remember was the phone call...then the black car speeding into mine hard.
Hale.
Hale is back.
I swear- I swear I saw him.
Or did I?
"Verena, baby, calm down," Covan whispered, running his fingers through my hair and down my shoulders. The monitors were making a lot of noise as I remembered my thoughts but eventually, it calmed down. "C-Covan, what happened," I repeated, demanding to get the answers. "You've been out for three days. You weren't in a coma...just unconscious from the crash," he sighed out, looking at his hands that were on the bed.
This definitely wasn't the hospital. It's too fancy to be the hospital. So where was I? That was a question for another chance. "You know about the crash?" I softly asked. He shook his head, looking unsure. "Preston found you leaning on a tree bleeding," he revealed. "My car...I was in an accident. My phone," I panicked. Hale was calling me, he was. I'm sure of it. I think. "It's missing. Your dad is outside, he already filed a report for the car but it hasn't shown up," Covan stated.
"D-Did you find him?" I stuttered, my heart beating hard at the thought of the possibility. "Who?" He asked softly, clearly not knowing. I avoided his eyes because I didn't want to tell him yet. "Can I see my parents please?" I changed the topic. "Verena, do you know who did this to you?" Covan almost growled out with a clenched jaw at the thought of getting justice.
Why didn't I say yes immediately? Even if it was only a suspicion. I should've told him, I trust Covan. I love Covan. So why couldn't I?
"N-No."
