I stared blankly at my mother, my body went slightly limp as I locked my eyes on a small section of the carpet. There was a small tiny stain on the right hand side of it. It's unnoticeable unless you're really focusing on it, two seconds later I zoned out recalling my little run in earlier on in the day, she seemed so normal, but then again so does everyone... so do I.
"Hey, y/n?" Mum startled me out of my daydream, my eyes were dazed but still confused, this has been a lot to take in for a day. "Why do you look surprised?" She furrowed her brows and fixated her eyes on me

"It's just, um, I met Hope. She's Haley Marshall's kid, right?"

"Yeah, she's also know as the magical miracle baby." Xavier chimed in, he had moved closer so he was kneeling in front of me, surveying the lost look in my face.

"I-uh n-no, you met her today?" Mum shook her head and gently lifted my chin with her forefinger to face her "h-honey when did that happen?"

"Earlier on today when I was going to meet Benji."

Her facial expression changed, she looked calm but worried, Xavier must've noticed it too because he started studying her facial expressions too. "What did you do?"

"What do you mean, what did I do?" She blinked at him rapidly. "I didn't do anything Xavier."

"You act like I wasn't married to you once upon a time. I know you. Something's up."

I kept bouncing my eye contact between them, but neither were looking at me, Xavier was glaring at my mum and trying to figure out what else she was hiding whilst mum was staring at the floor with the occasional glances at Xavier.

"I'm confused what's going on?" I had to pipe up sooner or later I want to know what's going on too.

"Nothings going on," she spoke to me before turning to Xavier "and I didn't do anything."

"Y/n, go upstairs your mom and I need to talk."

"But I wan-"

"Now please."

I sighed and rolled my eyes. I thought we were through with secrets. Are there still things that I'm not allowed to hear. "Fine." I leant over kissed Xavier on the cheek, "bye dad." I got out of my chair and hugged my mum and kissed her as well then made my way up the stairs

"Hey y/n,"

"Yeah," I turn towards my mum as I start to walk up the stairs looking at her through the banisters.

"There wasn't a man with Hope today, when you met her by any chance."

"No, I didn't stick around for long I had to go meet Benji."

"Oh, okay um good. You want pizza or chinese for dinner?"

"Yes." What can I say I like to have variety

"Okay I'll order both, go to your room now please."

I stomp up to the top of the stairs but I don't go to my room, instead I go to my secret spying spot. I crouched down on all fours and poked my ear through the cold rusty metal gap, "I know you're there y/n, I can hear you now go to your room please." Xaviers voice caused me to jump and hit my head against the top of the metal banister.
