Over a week had gone by and tomorrow was the night of the masquerade ball, mum mentioned she needed to go and be a presence for her coven, but I still haven't told her I was invited, or going for that matter, I figured since I'd be wearing a mask that she'd never notice. Xavier asked my mum if she'd go with him but she said it would be a bad idea, I don't know why she doesn't admit to herself that she still loves him, it's obvious, plus it'd be cool... to live with both my mum and dad.
I had been helping mum at the apothecary during the week and helping her get ready for the ball. I even took her to the store where me and Hope got our dresses from. She chose a simple sleek dark navy blue cowl neck satin dress that featured a high rise leg split and spaghetti straps that crossover in the back, she matched it with a silver mask and silver heels. Once we were done with shopping and the store we went over to my grandmothers house to see how she was doing for a while.

We were in the garden, mum was sitting on one of the loungers reading a book whilst me and gran were tending to her garden, she probably had every herb, flower, fruit and vegetable known to man just blooming in her back garden. I was helping her water whilst she weeded out the plants.
"You know y/n, magic isn't just with our ancestors, it's also in the ground all around us. It's an everlasting flow of energy surging through us." My gran chimed as she weeded a strawberry plant, she pulled off her gardening gloves and moved over to a bush of sad looking blackberries I knelt beside her as I watched her hold her hands over the plants, closing her eyes. A few seconds later a warm light left her hands and radiated on the plant, causing it to bloom back to life, full of ripe berries.
"Wow... will I be able to do that someday?"
"We can practise now, if you want?"
"That would be awesome, yes please."
Grandma Lisette walked towards a table and returned back to me only this time holding a dead Lilly plant, I took the pot from her hands and followed her inside the house, she led me up the stairs to a small room with one oval shaped window, surrounding the room were books that looked ancient, candles that had wax dripping everywhere, there were some cobwebs hanging from the windowpane and different objects sprawled out across the table.
"I think I got the book for that spell somewhere..." she trailed off as she searched the bookcases and some books on the floor.
She found the book she was looking for and handed it to me with a slight grin on her face, one that you would see on a parent after their child takes their first steps, I put the plant down on the table and walk towards grandma to take the book only to be surprised by my mum standing in the doorway. Only she didn't look like a proud parent, she looked worried.
"Mom I'm not sure I want her to be practising magic."
"Why not its her birthright, is it not?"
"Yes...it is... but it's too dangerous."
"How? She's a witch as far as everyone knows, besides the girls been attacked twice she needs to know how to protect herself." Grandma told mum matter of factly.
"Wait twice!?" I'm guessing by the look on mums face now that means I didn't tell her about my run in with a werewolf in the bayou... ohps?
"Mum... I want to learn, I need to know how to do this. Please." Her saying no wouldn't have stopped me, but it would've made me feel a whole lot damn better if I had her approval.
But instead she just sighed and taped blankly at the room in front of her "fine... but for now only learn the spells in that book. Okay?"
"Okay omg thank you!" I squeal towards her as I squeeze her tightly, I grab the book from my grandmothers hands and hug her whilst thanking her for the book, afterwards they exit the room, leaving me alone with the plant and the book of spells.
