"That was the worst burger I've ever had in my life," I whined towards my mum as we stepped back into our foyer at home.

"They must've hired a new chef because I remember it being so much better..." Mum replied to me as she took her black trench coat off.

"Or maybe it's the fact that you haven't been back there in sixteen years?" Xavier's large body was leaning against the side of the archway that connected the foyer and the living room. he was staring at us intensely... or should I say staring at mum. "Maya you look... you look perfect, as always"

"Thank you Xa-wait how did you get in here?"

"I gave him a key" I chirped past my mum as I stood next to my dad, I beamed a smile towards him and he flashed one back to me, I noticed his tie was a little crooked so I stood up on my toes and adjusted it properly for him, he gently pulled away after noticing the crown on my hair, "you didn't" he spoke to my mother "Maya tell me you didn't let our daughter take part of that stupid ritualistic pageant?"

"What is wrong with people today, first Davina and now you?" Mum questioned towards him "It's a pageant, a silly beauty pageant, that our daughter won by the way, this doesn't mean that she will become a harvest girl... that's for the ancestors to decide."

"Look Maya you haven't been here for a while and things have pretty much changed with the witches since you've been gone, but the last two harvest festivals, they were basically massacres."

"Y/n go to your room, change, get ready... don't come down until I, until we call you"

"Okay, what time are we leaving?"

"Just go and wait...please."

And with that I walked up the stairs, too tired and not really interested in listening to that argument... at least not today. once I got to my room I slipped out of my emerald green dress and into the red ball gown that the Mikaelsons had gifted me, I looked over to my mirror and gently touched up my makeup, reapplying that bold matte red lip that made my aquamarine green eyes shine. I looked at my computer and cheeked my IMS... still no word from Benji, he couldn't possibly be mad at me? I turned off the computer hoping to distract myself I walked to my bookshelf and picked up my latest read, 'when a monster calls' I bought it at the local bookshop back in my hometown in London, I opened the book and smelt the pages, it had that new book smell, I flipped all the pages through my fingers before moving to the first page of the book and dived in.

Halfway and deep emerged through the book a knock on the door, removed me from that otherworldly experience, "Y/n?" My mum said with her head peeking through the door "We're ready to go now." I picked up my mask and carefully stepped it around my face whilst slipping into my kitten heels, I grabbed a matching red clutch purse that mum let me borrow and walked out of my bedroom.

If I thought the living room experience was bad, the car ride was worse, just nothing but this intense awkward silence surrounded us, I plugged my AirPods in and started blasting chase Atlantics triggered through my head, best band ever by the way. it wasn't too long before we pulled up to the venue, the Mikaelson estate, not as big as their mansion, but it was still insanely huge. before I could reach for my handle, my door was pulled open, a hand awaiting mine. I looked up to the man dressed head to toe in black and white with bow tie and a full face mask to match, I gently placed my hand in his as he helped me out of the car. after Xavier had helped my mother out of the car, that same valet driver then hopped into the driver's seat and drove off with the car.

I carefully followed behind my parents walking along the glamorous red carpet floor laid out for guest entering the estate, once we entered my mind was blown, paintings filled the skylight, so beautiful and antique, they must've been here for hundreds of years... but then again with the age of the Mikaelson family, they were probably here when it got painted, the walls flourished white and gold, with the decor to match, it felt like I had just stepped into a fairytale. I felt my arm get yanked gently with a woman speaking to me "there you are," I noticed it's the woman from the pageant, "you were supposed to get her here an hour ago" she retorts to my mother, "Xavier."
