Me:

Happy Birthday MORON!!

I messaged him at 12 at night but there was no response. I looked across the street at his house. I feel like a stalker but I just want to know if he is awake. The light were off. He's probably sleeping.

(NEXT MORNING)

Is he going to sleep through the whole day?  He still hasn't seen my message and school starts in half an hour. I'm probably being paranoid. I was driving by myself today. Jake's car was not in the driveway. I just sighed and took off. I saw his car in school parking lot. At least he is alive.

I entered the building and waited by his locker. The bell rung. Feeling a little dejected I made my way to History with Stacy. Something is seriously wrong with him.

It's now lunch and I still haven't seen Jake. His car was still in the parking lot but where the hell was he?! Even the guys were constantly looking for him. All of them had grown pretty close. I kept glancing to the door every time someone entered, hoping it was him. Suddenly, he came from the side of the grounds.

"Jake!" I called out. Either he didn't hear me or he decided to ignore. He looked completely out of it and broken. What was going on with him?

He didn't look at anyone and continued to exit in a rush. I couldn't help but follow him. He went out to the parking lot and got in his car. I got in my car and followed him. For 5 minutes, he drove around aimlessly. Then he started making his way to... the grave?

He parked his car and got out. I let him go in then went in the same direction as him. Now I was definitely playing the role of a stalker. But I am worried about him so I don't care about that at the moment. He had white flowers in his hands and kneeled to put them down.

I hid close by. "Why did you have to leave me? Couldn't you stay a little longer. If you were upset about what I said, you should have just told me. I don't hate you mom. I could never. I love you so much. But I do hate you for leaving me. You leaving messed up with dad's head, and he left us too. Please come back. I need you." His voice cracked towards the end and my heart ached for him. He broke down completely and I ran towards him.

I put on my hand on his shaking shoulder and he looked towards me. He had tears running down his cheeks. He had black bag under his eyes as if he hadn't slept all night. Just looking at him welled up tears in my eyes but I held them back. I kneeled down next to him and hugged him. He cried in the crook of my neck but I didn't even care. I ran my fingers through his hair, trying to calm him down. How can someone as tough as him, be so broken?

"Shh. It's okay. She's right here and is always looking out for you. Shh." Soon his crying turned into sobs and then to heavy breathing. I held him as he calmed down and kept saying comforting words now and then. We sat in the same position until he pulled away. I wiped the tears from his face and looked at him.

"How did you find me?" He said sniffling.

"I was looking for you since this morning and saw you leaving school. So, I followed you." He just nodded. If he was his usual cocky self, he would've made a smart ass comment about me looking for him. But he didn't and I was wishing that he would.

"This is why you don't like your birthday?"

"Yes. I wished I would've said something else to her. If I could just have a minute with her, I would tell her how much I love her. I would hug her tight and tell her I miss her and that I don't care about the stupid action figure I wanted." He was still breathing heavily and trying to hold back the tears, threatening to fall.

"Jake it's not your fault. She knows you love her. It was just a spur of the moment that you said you.. you know. She knows you love her. She never doubted your love for her for even a second and I am sure she doesn't want you to beat yourself over it." I suck at comforting people.

He tried to muster up a smile but couldn't. He put his head on my shoulder and sighed. "Thanks Addy. I'm sorry for ignoring you and the oth-"

"Hey. Don't worry about it."

"You know my mom always smelled like lilies. She made the world's best brownies. I was only 10  when she taught me how to make them. She used to let me lick the batter. At night, if I couldn't sleep, she'd read stories to me." He smiled at the memory.

"Tell me more about her." Sometimes getting people to talk about what was going in their head, helped.

"I was scared of heights so I never went on any rides. All of us were at the amusement park. Like any other time, I had not gone on any rides yet. It took a lot of persuasion, but I finally went on the Ferris wheel with her. At the top I was in awe with the view. So, she helped me get over my fear of heights." We sat there for a while as he told me a few stories of his mom. Although he was sad, his eyes lit up as he talked.

"Addy. Thank you for being here." He said as we made our way to the car.

"Your welcome. So are you coming to come to your party?" I looked at him expectantly, hoping he was going to say yes.

He smiled, "I'll see you there, princess."
