Chapter 16: Heartbeat

"What do you think, Jungkook-ssi?"

"Hmm. It sounds good actually but her voice lacks emotions." The panel nodded one by one, agreeing with what he said.

They are screening the contestants for the song writing competition. They will choose who will proceed to the final stage and will have a chance to perform live. And for the first time, Jungkook finally joined the panel of judges, after hundreds of attempts of inviting him.

Jungkook is along with the top composers and producers in the music industry. One of them is Min Yoongi aka Agust D. He's one of the top producers and rappers in the music industry. He and Jungkook are also good friends.

He massaged his temples after reviewing almost a hundred contestants. It's much more stressful than he thought.

"Okay for the next contestant, we have Rosé. She's a trainee at YG Entertainment. It'll be a good opportunity if she got in the live show. It'll boost her popularity. Don't you think?" One of the judges said, who is obviously trying to win them over since he's part of the said company.

"Let's listen to her first." Yoongi said shortly.

They played the clip and all of them started to evaluate her.

She can sing.There's something unique about her voice. Her sweet voice echoed all over the room but Jungkook just remained straight-faced while writing on the paper.

"Wow." The four judges clapped except for Jungkook and Yoongi who just quietly nodded when the song finished.

"I think we found what we're looking for. She got the star quality. She's not just a songwriter, she's also a good singer. Not to mention, she's also very pretty."

"I agree. A perfect package!" Said the judge from earlier.

"It's clearly obvious that her company provided the song." Yoongi said under his breath, but Jungkook heard it.

"I agree."

Jungkook wanted to say the same. The song is really good. It's sounds too perfect actually. That's why he knows that she's not the one who wrote it.

"Okay, next one. We have Lee Jieun."

Jungkook cleared his throat as he stared at the clip. Then she started singing. The room was silent from the beginning until the end of the song. The silence broke when Yoongi spoke.

"She has a potential."

The judges just stared at him, too shocked by what he said. They all know that Yoongi is very picky. He never compliments someone unless it's really good.

Jungkook remained silent, waiting for the other judges' comments.

"Yeah. She's also good at playing the guitar. How old is she?" Jungkook raised his eyebrow upon hearing the question from that annoying judge.

"She's 23."

"Hmm. I think Rosé still shines for me the most. She's young and got a lot of potential too."

The other judges ignored his remarks and continued complimenting Jieun.

"I love her voice. I could listen to it all day without getting tired."

"Her lyrics are good too. There's a poetic element behind it. I really like it."

Jungkook smiled.

Yoongi seemed to notice his friend's sudden change of mood.

"You like her too?" He looked at Yoongi who's half smirking at him.

"What? No? I barely know her. Why would I---"
