Rebecca and Rodger were shocked about how much time had passed. It had been eight years since their daughter was in a coma, and she still had not woken up. As much as Rebecca wanted to see her daughter every day that became a difficult task seven years ago when she gave birth to twin boys.
At the beginning of her pregnancy, Rebecca made an effort to go and see Nikki and talk to her, update her on what was going on. When the twins were born Rebecca decided to focus on the twins and went to see Nikki once a month for an hour. Sometimes that hour would be cut short when her husband called her to go home because the twins miss her or because he had been called into work.
Today though was different. Rebecca and her husband were going to the hospital t say their final goodbye. After many therapy sessions and hours of talking with her husband, Rebecca was ready to say good to Nikki permanently.
Rodger waited behind with the kids in the waiting room while Rebecca went to make sure everything in the room was organized and Nikki looked presentable. Rebecca stepped into the room and was terrified of what she found. Anger began to fill inside of her along with fear. She rushed out of the room and began to talk with the first doctor she saw.
"Miss, I need to slow down and explain what the problem is to me again." The doctor told her.
"My daughter," Rebecca said as she took a moment to catch her breath and calm down. "She has been here the past few years in a coma. She not in her room. Where is she?'"
"Okay, let's go see." Doctor Torres told her.
When they enter the room Rebecca glanced at the bed again but it was empty. She was certain she had no imagined the bed is empty. The woman turned around when they heard a door open.
Out of the bathroom came the person Rebecca had been looking for. She couldn't believe her eyes. They were staring at her daughter who was awake and walking.
"Hey, sweetie. I'm Doctor Torres can you tell me your name?"
"Nikki Adams." The blonde girl answered.
"Do you know where you are?"
"Based on what the nurse this morning told me, the hospital," Nikki answered honestly. Nikki smiled when she felt her mother hug her. She knew the woman was crying.
"Why don't you have a seat so I can examine you?" The Doctor told the girl. Nikki did as she was told. Her mother excused her to let her know that she was going to go talk to her father.
Nikki did as she was told. Doctor Torres examined her, making sure that there was nothing wrong but from what the doctor saw Nikki's heart sounded normal, she was breathing normally and her brain function seemed normal. She explained how she was going to have the nursed draw some blood and run some tests but she could go home and she would call her when the results came in.

Nikki left the hospital with her mother. They made their way to the house, most of the drive was quiet. Neither woman knew what to say to the other. It wasn't like if Nikki had been on some interesting vacation.
"How long?" Nikki asked breaking the silence.
"How long what sweetie?" Rebecca said.
"How long was I in a coma?"
"Eight years."
Once in the house, Nikki took a second before she stepped in. She was sure if things had changed but she just didn't know what to expect. When she entered she was greeted by a hug from her father. Her father had changed he now had some grey hairs, and she could tell her had gained a couple of pounds. Next to her father were two little kids. Who looked more like her mother than her father.
