So I was bored and um...angry so...here.
June Allen was terrified.
Her knuckles turned white from clasping the steering wheel as she sped down the highway, making it her highest priority to make it to the school as fast as possible. She didn't care if she was speeding, she didn't care if people were honking their horns and screaming, she only cared about making it to the school.
It was horrifying. Piper suddenly dashing into her bedroom, waving the phone madly while urgently yelling. While her words sounded all jumbled up due to her being upset, she did make out two words that made her blood freeze.
Ollie and hospital.
"Hi, erm, Miss. Allen? This is the school nurse. It appears that your son is having an allergic reaction from something that he ate, although we can't confirm what it was. While we deal with allergic reactions a lot here, Oliver's case seems to require medical assistance, so I'd advise you to get here as soon as you can."
In the background, June could hear noises. It sounded harsh and rattly wheezing as if somebody was having trouble breathing. Replaying the voice message again, she picked up the sounds of dry coughing and weak panting...
It didn't take long to realize that it was Ollie. Ollie was coughing and wheezing. He was suffering.
He was suffocating.
She moved so fast that she wasn't even sure if she had locked her shop. Did Piper do it? You know what, fuck the shop. There were more important things at hand at the moment, and a measly shop was the least of her worries. Even Pyper could see the seriousness of the situation. The 10-year-old had quietly nestled herself into the passenger seat, her pupils were shrunken in distress.
"Mama?"
Her once loud and boisterous voice now came out as weak and fragile, wavering with every word. She looked at her mom through the rearview mirror.
Mama...she called her mama. She only did that when she was scared. Swallowing back her worries, she put on a strong face for her daughter. "Yeah, pumpkin?"
"Is Ollie going to the hospital? O-on an ambulance? "
"I'm afraid so, sweetie," June nodded with a sad smile. "Don't worry. The doctors know what they're doing, they'll have Ollie bouncing back before you know it."
She was beginning to talk more to herself. She needed the assurance just as much as Pyper.
"Ollie doesn't like ambulances. " the girl mumbled before slipping back into the silence.
"...I know, sweetie. I know. But...sometimes you have to do something you don't want to do. That's just how life works. "
"Is he gonna be okay? "
"Well...let's hope for the best."
She couldn't sugarcoat something like that, especially since she had no idea herself. The only thing they could do at the moment was hope.
Upon finally arriving at the middle school, June hastily pulled her seatbelt off and instructing Pyper to do the same. She felt like she was going to need the young one's help when they brought Ollie outside.
Two pairs of shoes thundered against the hallway floors, pushing aside anyone that was blocking their way. They'd apologize later, maybe, but it would have to wait.
They burst into the nurse's office, breathing heavily from running so fast. They didn't expect to see what they did.
Cleo and Bernie were there, Bernie hyperventilating in a corner from all of the panic, while Cleo was beating Ollie in the back as an attempt to clear his airway. She thought that he was choking.
