A Glover thing

"Are you sure you don't want to go to the lake with us?"

The old wizard clutched the doorknob as he asked his magical glove for the last time.

"Yeah, bro! It's gonna be fun!" The other glove chimed in, resting on the wizard's hat. This was Glover's brother, the one who he had to save twice. The first time, understandable, he simply fell off the hand and into the pot. The second time? Well, there were some questions.

"I'm sure. Go ahead."

"Ah, you're no fun! Haven't I taught you anything?" his brother teased, Glover giving an unimpressed sigh. He fought the urge to say a remark, not wanting a scolding from the wizard.

"Well, we'll see you later, then," the wizard shrugged, waving goodbye. "Be good, and don't make a mess. Only use my spellbook if there's an emergency. "

"Join us anytime you want!" his brother added, waving one of his arms. "Don't fall in the cauldron!"

Oh, what a poor joke. The other glove cringed visibly, only getting a grin out of his sibling. A cringe must've been positive feedback to him. He and the wizard finally left, leaving Glover alone with his thoughts.

They've been disturbing him for a while.

As mentioned before, the first time his brother turned into Cross-stitch was just due to a series of unfortunate events. The wizard was being a bit silly, he must've put something wrong in the pot. But... what? Why did he turn out evil? Was the wizard making something bad? No, that's not likely. If the dude was some sort of evil sorcerer, then Glover would've known by now. They usually dealt with chemical stuff, right? So that would mean that he'd have to wear them to pick up objects, and he could read pretty well. None of the bottles he saw looked suspicious. No, the wizard wasn't evil. He mixed the wrong stuff around, that's all. Then, there was his brother.

He and Glover had a normal, brotherly relationship. They were there for each other...he guessed. He was a little bossy, but he was okay. Even after Glover saved him, his personality didn't change much, which was kind of a letdown. He got a small thank you and a hug, but that was pretty much it. Second time around, he just got a thank you. He sounded kind of disappointed that he was saved. He didn't want to remain as Cross-stitch, did he?

He could remember the day that happened. The wizard had gone out for a fishing vacation, like all good wizards do, and had left his two little gloves alone in the palace. Glover had been asleep, but his twin was up and about, stirring around a stew in the pot. That pot always seemed to cause their problems. When Glover woke up, the wizard had left, giving him only a note to inform him of his whereabouts. His brother was acting sort of weird, too. He was a lot bossier than usual, demanding Glover to go out and find random vegetables from the garden. For a picnic, he thought. He was rushing him as well, looking antsy. He really wants to go to that picnic, he thought innocently.

Boy, was he wrong.

After Glover brought the mushroom and yeeted it into the pot, his brother swirled the ingredients around before taking a mighty leap inside. When he emerged, he had turned into the one thing he never wanted to see. He had been fooled, he had released a monster. The wizard wouldn't be back for ages, leaving him with no help.

Well, there was the Hub World Chicken, but he was pretty much useless.

Glover went through hell trying to save the world and his brother at once, and what did he get?

"Thanks, bro. Must've slipped in or something."

The more Glover thought about it, the less likely that explanation looked.
