“And D.A.T.A.O is a secret organisation. There's nothing about it on Google”, said Anne, fighting for the brownies. Sky shot me a ‘IT-IS-NOT-POISON?!’ look. I’ve mostly made prank desserts for them. I grinned at her and she took one and looked at me cautiously before taking a chocolate pop. She plumped one into her mouth fully at the same time Zepher did so. They spat it out in sync. I gave them my innocent smile which gave off the ‘I'M-UP-TO-NO-GOOD!’ look in it. “GROSS! LIZ, WHAT DID YOU PUT IN THIS?!”, Zepher and Sky shouted in sync and broke out laughing. Like everyone else who were on the floor now.
“Oh, not much! Just flour, coconut powder, milk powder, chilli, salt, sugar, vinegar, sauce, and since the flour was out, I found some expired flour which I poured a great quantity of", I smiled at them. “I’m sorry if you hafta use the toilet more than you should"
Zepher and Sky looked at each other, clutching their stomach as if it might fall. “You’re so mean, for crying out loud", laughed Sky.
“Hey Liz, can I have something to drink, please?”, said Zepher. I went to the wooden crooked cabinets and took one of the homemade milk in store for me and my neighbourhood friends.
I poured a glass and took it to him. He squinted at it. “Is that going to turn me into a rodent?”
“Where is the trust? I think it's strawberry juice", I said. “Anyways, it's yummy. Zepher?” I offered him the glass.
“I am a man", he told me. “and men do not consume pink beverages. Get thee gone, woman, and bring something brown"
“Brown?”, I made a face.
“Brown is a manly colour", he said, and yanked on a stray lock of my hair with his hand. “In fact, look—Rafel is wearing it”
Rafel looked mournfully down at his sweater. “It was black", he said. “But then it faded"
“You could dress it with a sequined hairband", I smirked at him, yanking my hair free. He laughed. “Just a thought"
We talked for awhile about our discovery before I set the laptop in my back pack. The man had vigorous black beady eyes. And his black hair combed backcomb style, with a strand of dyed red hair. And his nose was stout and his face shape was round. His skin tone was really pale, that of a drug dealer.
“FINALLY! I SAY WE HUNT THEM DOWN!”, I pumped my fist up in the air, excited. “And get ourselves killed? I see you've really thought this through", Sky said, nodding her head in approval caked with sarcasm.
“Ooh, does that mean you're a scaredy cat? I neva dreamt of that but now that I am, I find it incredibly possible”, Zepher snickered. “Not gonna work on me, Zepher, my buddy”, she frowned. “I'm in!”, Anne added.
“We can't go looking for our own death! It's like suicide--", I interrupted Hazel with a cough. She quietened down as we all sent a sideways glance at Colin. He didnt say anything. Much less was he in this world. He looked up at us with a questioning look. I shook my head and turned to the others.
“If Liz is going for the worst, might as well join her. She can be really reckless and it would be inappropriate to leave her on her own. And besides, I’m one of her besties. I’ve gotcher tail, queen of pranks”, said Rachel.
“Well, cool! Me, Hazel and Sky will wait for you guys at the graveyard, just in case! So here's a piece of advice, boys and tomboy and girls”, said Mia. “Try not to get yourselves killed out there. If you do, we'll have a lot of explaining to do"
At that, I broke into a grin. An unsettling grin, less a flash of amusement than the gleam of an unsheathed blade. “You know”, I said. “I have a feeling that that’s gonna be the case whether I get myself killed or not”
“Anyone signing out is welcomed to do it now”, Rachel waved her hand wearily in the air. She looked around. “OK! Guess it's just you three. The rest know what to do"
We BEGGED and PLEADED with the three of them. All except Colin. I could see Hazel wants to join us, but she always supports Sky.
“How about a deal?”, sighed Theo. “If something strange happens by tomorrow after school, we're hunting them down!”
“I could probably agree to THAT", Sky smiled confidently.
At night time, I couldn’t fall asleep as not even a dose thought I was worth being put to sleep. It was midnight, precisely. Loads of questions flooded through me. Why would we get attacked? Is it something we did to them? If so, why do they intend to kill us? Who are they? Are they specialised in the IT field? Is this gonna be some fictional crap? Will something happen at school? If so, what will? Were they going to be demolishing the cafeteria? Or were they going to make a small entrance? Will we get kidnapped? What will happen after all this shit is over? Will we go back to the way we used to be? And...Why us?
