I gave you my heart
Beautifully gift wrapped
In a tidy little box topped
With a bow
In a brilliant hue of your favorite color
And watched in rapt attention
As you removed the lid
Lifted my heart out of the box
And set it oh so gently
On the floor at your feet
Before grinding it to dust
Beneath the heel of your boot
Then you looked up
Your lips peeled back in a snarl
"Is that all you have to give?"
I could only nod
My eyes locked on the growing pool
Surrounding your feet
Inching its way closer to me
As I sank to my knees
I heard you whisper
"It's not good enough"
