Vibrant gel-coated pills
Disappear beneath an eager tongue
Slipping down an open throat
Chased with bitter alcohol
The desperately needed combination
For a broken soul that sought
An alternate reality
An escape from the heart-shredding agony that
Made the bone-deep ache
Fade into the background
When the alcohol had vanished
And the last pill was swallowed
Colors ago
Reality crashed in
