I stepped into the cold, dark night and took a deep breathe. Freedom had never smelled so good. The sky was filled with sparkling stars and a half moon, hidden behind grey clouds.
My surroundings were silent. The only voice I heard was a buzzer as a guard stepped out and stared at me. I searched around for Brianna's car, but she hadn't arrived yet.
So, I took my leisure time to stretch my muscles and close my eyes, taking in the current feeling.
It was easy to bail me after Valerie was beaten up by my rival gang. Blake just pointed out the mere fact that if they could stab her for putting their member in jail, it wasn't difficult to plant those drugs in my pocket.
Since I was in the town's local prison, it didn't take any more convincing than that and they decided to let me go. I was glad that we agreed to take their help in the very first place.
"You ready?" A chirpy voice asked me.
I smiled at Kelly and walked towards the car, waving my hand.
"Let's get out of here," I said, not caring how desperate that sounded.
"Did they give you everything they took from you?" She asked.
"Yep."
"Alright then, where do you want to go?"
"Valerie's place. I have to see how she is doing."
Kelly gave me a half salute and started the engines. I looked out of the town like it was my first time seeing it. The lights, the people, everything made me feel warm and happy.
"How you feeling finally being back in town?" Kelly questioned.
"You have no idea how much relieved I feel. I gotta thank Blake to get me out of that hell hole."
After she asked me about my experience, there was another brief moment of silence.
"I know you just got out of jail, but tomorrow we have to go to that abandoned place where we were originally going to meet the killer," she spoke. "I thought it was best if I brief you on the situation and save everybody else the trouble."
"Why are we going there? And why did you'll plan to see the killer in an abandoned place?"
"It's near the ending of this town and for this case to still be a secret, it was the only place Brianna and Valerie could think of."
"And why are we going there tomorrow?"
"Lenny has been kidnapped and we have our doubts that he is being held captive over there," she answered.
"Do we still think Lenny killed Rosalind?"
"I don't because he has an alibi on the day she was murdered."
"Isn't it funny how every lead we have goes down the drain? The killer must be one hell of a dude to clear his tracks so perfectly," I scoffed.
Kelly murmured something incoherent and I didn't bother to ask her because I was more focused on the house in front of me.
