The drive back home was more silent and satisfactory. I was no longer an anxious mess, if anything, I was confident.
It felt like a found a new purpose and all of my focus was ready to give its 100%.
I could not wait to tell this to the others because deep inside they were going through a similar feeling like mine. They all blamed themselves.
Jordan and Blake both looked at me and I could feel then smiling even when they were actually confused as to why I was suddenly so relaxed.
It was a beautiful feeling and I was never letting it go.
I was absent as a friend previously, but this was my chance to redeem myself. A chance to prove myself worthy. A chance to make Rosalind proud.
As Jordan pulled over, I saw Brianna and Lenny sitting on my porch, talking. I got out of the car excitedly and went to tell them everything.
Even about my half closure.
"How did it go?" Brianna asked.
"Me and Jordan punched the Lucas guy. But he isn't our killer since he didn't even know Rosalind's name until today. He wasn't even aware that she was pregnant." I answered.
"So, that means we are back to square one?" Lenny scoffed.
"Why are you being so negative?" I questioned, taking a seat next to them.
Jordan and Blake joined us too, but sensing the tension in the air, Blake decided to leave and notify Kelly.
It was the four of us, looking at each other, not uttering a single word. My happiness fades because I knew there was another storm coming.
Something wasn't right. Something was bothering Lenny and Brianna which I was unaware of.
"Lenny, why are you being so negative? Did something happen?" I asked again.
Jordan leaned against the wall, looking at Lenny.
"We don't think that us catching the killer is a good idea anymore." Brianna spoke.
"Why?" Jordan retorted.
"Because it has gotten us nowhere!" Lenny whispered, but the anger in his tone was evident. "We are just running around like maniacs unravelling parts of Rosalind's life which none of us were aware of. That's it. That's all we are doing. We are not coming close to the killer at all."
"And that's bad?" I looked at Lenny. "Is that a bad thing? You were supposed to be her boyfriend. You were supposed to know that she was unhappy. It was your duty to find out what was bothering her. But you failed her." Blake said, looking at Lenny.
"And you. You were supposed to be her best friend. You were supposed to be there when Lenny wasn't. You were her comfort. Her safe haven. But you forgot about her the moment you stepped out of this town." He said, pointing at Brianna.
