When they arrived a man who looked dazed was walking in the streets with seemingly no destination in particular, drifting with eyes glazed over as the village whispered rumours and cast fleeting looks towards them as he stumbled.
A few marks that may have signified he was punched or attacked on his face, people only noticed it and further continued to whisper and gossip about the demon that may have been killing several of this town's teenage girls. Most everyone, unlike Himo and Tanjiro had been, were very aware of demons and how they worked, staying at home during the night was a regular routine that no one dare deviate from.
Himo talked to a few of the villagers while Tanjiro went with the man who they found out was named Kazumi, his fianceè, Satoko had been the latest disappearance from the village along with many others, he stated that they were just walking at night and then she had just disappeared into thin air like that, the lantern she had been carrying dropped to the ground and when he turned she just vanished, even after looking around he had no trace of sign of her.
The poor man had a look in his eyes like he had no purpose in life to him and wanted to be removed from this...dream that must've been a nightmare to him, he looked like he didn't want to be alive anymore without his lover. Not to mention his family was furious over this and his father in particular had smacked him across the face for it, leaving the mark they saw today as punishment.
"It's only the teenage girls," One woman said to her like it was a good thing or something, Himo was surprised to hear the trend the demon followed was seemingly only killing teenage girls who were pretty. "I'm glad that I'm already old and ugly. You, young lady, should watch where you go." She warned, Himo didn't like her by the tone of her voice but made sure not to express such feelings, Himo didn't know whether to be insulted, complimented, or a mixture of both. Insulted because they were judging her based on looks, Complimented that they think she's pretty, Both for both reasons. She was here to kick ass, not be eye candy for a demon to her death.
Himo wasn't exactly perfect, her eyes weren't dazzlingly bright with a glint bright enough to make a diamond jealous, her build was rather thin for a slayer, and her blue eyes made her eyes very sensitive to light, her pale skin made it easy for her to get sunburnt.
Soon she met up with Tanjiro after asking a few more people around town to gather information while he tried to track the demon down with his sense of smell along with Kazumi who'd ventured with him all around town, finding the scent of the demons who seemed to have covered every inch of the village in its killing spree during the nights, this was bad, that meant the demon had been here for a while and dozens of people had likely died before they'd gotten here. Not to mention based off scent alone it would be impossible for them to find the demon before nightfall.
By now, the sun was setting in the distance and people were frantically getting back home and into their houses at this hour to sleep, parents ushered their children in and by the time the sun began to set everyone was locked up in their houses silently with lights out and doors locked tightly behind them with their children inside, that is except for Tanjiro, Himo, and Mr. Kazumi, who were still roaming the streets in search of a lead together.
They didn't have a lead yet, not until-
"The scent got stronger, it's active!" Tanjiro yelled and suddenly began sprinting his way around the streets. Himo got his attention and pointed to the roof as the road seemed to be the slower way around and they both jumped onto the roof, running along it, Tanjiro in the lead with his superior sense of smell as they ran along the parapets and roofs to the root of everything. She let him lead the way but made sure to watch ahead and look for any other paths that might be faster, not to mention keeping an eye out for Mr. Kazumi as he was still running below.
